I chose this title because of a recommendation. I don't ordinarily read many British mysteries. This one intrigued because the main character, Liz, is close to my own age. She's starting over in a new small town after losing her husband. AND she's an artist opening her own shop. Oh, did I mention she's a retired detective?! I am confident to say that I WILL be following this series. I love it.

I have read the Rei Shimura mysteries by Sujata Massey so I was curious about this new series. What a delight this was! It was a little tricky for me at first to grasp the laws of Perveen's time. But once I allowed myself to just enjoy the story, I was enraptured by 1920's Bombay. It was so interesting to hear Perveen's struggles with marriage and her fight for justice. Another very addictive series!

She's determined to be a private detective, but hampering her investigations is the fact that she's finding many places in turn-of-the-century New York City where women are not welcome, something that's as frustrating to her fiery Irish pride as it is to her rapidly emptying pocketbook. Then two business opportunities pop up simultaneously. I read this book years ago & was so enchanted with Daisy, but I could never find more books in this series. So imagine my delight to find the audio books! Daisy Gumm Majesty is one of my favorite characters. Her wit, and her kindness towards her invalid husband, make her the kind of woman I want to befriend. This book was humorous because Daisy teaches a cooking class at the Salvation Army. This is because she has no ability to cook. But solving mysteries regarding illegal immigrants, now that's another story.
