Dark Fire audiobook cover art

Going up in flames! Sexy salvation just in time.

Trigger warning! Some scenes triggered me, so proceed with caution of you have triggers to abuse and sexual assault in a story. I enjoyed this book not just for the steamy sexy scenes, but because it is essentially a book of hope and healing. Tempest, a young woman who was neglected, alone, and abused overcame her circumstances and with the love and help of a caring woman, built a mediocre life. Darius is older than dirt, domineering, and set in his ways. He is autocratic and she defies him at every turn. Tempest (Rusty to her friends) needs a family, and Darius' troope of traveling musicians is just what she needs. She brings guidance for a fellow abuse victim, and proves that life may never be the same, but it can still be good. Kaleo Griffith did an adiquate job narrating this story.

First I want to warn that there is a scene that may trigger PTSD sufferers. Gregori is animalistic and on the verge of loosing his soul, at his darkest moment when Savannah has no reason to trust or even like him, her compassion and love save him. Gregori is an old dog, but Savannah is determined to teach him new tricks. Their attraction and interactions are witty and steamy. Sean Crisden makes the story real, but I disliked no he enunciated Gregori as Gregory, other than that it is a fantastic listen.

Trauma breeds distrust and a PTSD that no healer can cure. Shea & Jacque have both suffered mentally and physically in the past. Shea's natural compassion and talent as a doctor drives her to give aid to a horrifically injured man who has appeared in her nightmares for years. Jacque is little better than an injured wolf functioning on instinct alone when he is rescued from his immurement. His distrust of everyone makes him dependant and difficult & Shea's history of being self-reliant and independent cause sparks to fly. Reading their journey as they learn to compromise and rely on each other to bridge their collective gaps kept me engaged throughout this book. Abby Craven delivered another invigorating performance of one of my favorite books!

Tut & Brooke have a hard road, but with the psi-ops teams coming together, love prevails. Heart stopping, panty wetting, and tear jerking drama around every corner, it is hard to put this book down! I loved the written version when I first read it, but listening to Mason Lloyd bring the characters to life was incredible! Worth every second! Cannot wait to hear/read more hopefully with Bethany and her cousins!

Another great read in Michelle M. Pillow's Qurilixen World! I fell in love with these characters in The Bound Prince (Lords of the Var series). Seldom do I find books whose characters are as engaging as the ones in Michelle's books! Dev & Violet set off sparks that grow into a roaring passion. Michelle tweaks all the feels in her storytelling and will have you laughing and crying in several places throughout this book. I am eager to hear more from all of the Qurilixen characters and their spin offs! The Space Lords series is definitely on the top of my list of favorites. I really enjoyed the way Michael Ferraiuolo brings the characters to life and gives them voice in this book. I will certainly be listening to more of this series!

Since this is the first book in the series, there should be a warning that you are going to need to read/listen to the prequel first. You come in at a pivotal moment in the story, and it leaves you scrambling for at least the first 10 chapters. The storyline is good but can drag on in spots. By the time I was understanding what was going on, the plot twist happened and I was lost again. I will have to get the prequel and then re-listen to this book, and maybe I will review it again then.

Good intentions abound, keeping siblings in the dark, parents in pain, and lovers apart. Good southern morals and reality differ greatly. I loved this book and look forward to more.
