I really enjoyed the story until the last 2 chapters!! I love a good mystery/thriller but I also love happy endings for the main characters especially after what this one has been through!! If your looking for a happy ending-this ain’t it!! I will read book 2 because I’m too invested not!! The narrator really made the experience for me! I love Shannon Manus!!

Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Having undergone a double mastectomy, all she wants to do is dive back into her medical examiner job. It's a gruesome world, yet Schwartzman takes comfort in its science and precision. But the crime she's dealing with brings her right back to the cancer ward: the victim is her own oncologist, dead from ingesting the very chemical used to fight her disease.

I love Schwartzman’s story! Spencer is one scary guy!! I’m disappointed that the relationship with Ken Macey was killed off. He truly understood and accepted her on such an intimate level. Any woman would kill to have a man like him. The direction the story is going with Hal as her partner doesn’t feel the same. I pray book 3 sees Ken back in Anna’s life. If Hal is the hero who takes Spencer down I can live with that!

I have never wanted to cry for the loss of a character like I did for Kat. I will never accept this version of her "happy ever after". Blane deserved way more than he got. I'm not sure why the direction went the way it did other than to show that if your evil and manipulative enough you get the girl. So sad.......

Blane Kirk is a Navy SEAL turned attorney with old money and an even older pedigree. High powered and aggressive, he plays the field, changing women as often as he changes his ties - but he's had no complaints so far. He has only two rules: Don't date employees, and don't get emotionally involved. These are rules he can easily live by...until his runner, an employee in his law firm named Kathleen Turner, does an unexpected faceplant into his lap.
