This book and Winds of War are monunental works that sketch the pre-war and WWII years through the Henry family. It's detail and historical accuracy are amazing. They are a saga worth your time - you will not be disappointed...

A well researched and well written book...Puts many myths to bed regarding this unfortunately scourge in American history (though numerous other Union and Confederate prison canes were not much better). It's not the fiction/partial non-fiction of Kanter's "Andersonville"...though the reality is no less engrossing.

I recommend this to Civil War history buffs...it will not disappoint...

50 years after my mother cried while reading this book, I finally listened and it was as rich and emotional as she described it. I have read numerous non-fictional accounts of the atrocities of Andersonville and had thought that no fiction could touch the realities of history....I was wrong...This book is a must read for any Civil War enthusiast who wishes deeper insight and emotion to the darker parts of that conflict...I was enthralled...

After all the critical reviews regarding the music track, I thought I too would be bothered. With the exception of a loud guitar rift, I thought the music increased the drama; it did not detract. I enjoyed Eli's narration -- a classic actor...I enjoyed the story and thought it was up to King's standard. I recommend it...

I enjoyed this and the other 2 books in the Bill Hodges series. I found that all three started slow with sms character confusion, however, once they got moving they were exciting and entertaining. This book was more fantasy
than the others, but it reinforced the malevolence of the series antagonist. The character mix of Bill with Jerome and Holly was outstanding...

I recommend this book and the entire series to both detective tale lovers and King aficionados...worth your time...

The humor and wit of the consummate storyteller Mark Twain is well known and beyond question. My only question is: where has this book been hiding? Detailed and vivid description mixed with antiquities and biblical history and text, riveting vignettes and outstanding satire and humor. The Holy Land, southern Europe and Egypt of 1867 came to life. As usual Robin Field was a fantastic reader; he was Twain. This is a must have for your Audible Library...

Wow!!! I like long books, so after finishing "November 22nd" by King (and enjoyed it), I thought I'd try another one of his. I did not go wrong listening to this one. it is fast paced with great charCter development and action. (Though almost too many to keep up with.) The story is coherent and riveting. It does not drag in any place. The chapters are in a short vignette style, jumping from scene to scene keeping the story moving The protagonist were likable and the antagonists pure evil. The dome goes up and the pressure cooker builds. The build up is great and the outcome overwhelmingly ok though many do not see the ending....It is worth your tume!!!

The narrator was good and his Maine accents were believable....again it is worth your time!!!
