The narrator is great. He has a deep voice and strong delivery that fits the archatype of the alpha. This (artificially) lends the writing more credence.

I found the book insightful, but I had trouble staying focused. I know that my mind wanders, but I think that the book was less compelling than his other writing.

The best insights were about the origin and symptoms of low self-esteem along with the idea that someone's self-esteem varies one area of life to another.

He gives the example of a man who might have high self-esteem elsewhere while experiencing low self-esteem in the dating realm based on past experiences.

Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point: really hard, and not much fun at all. And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip: a temporary setback that you will overcome if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

This is my second time listening to this book and definitely not my last. I always get lost thinking about all of the possible dips or dead ends that I'm facing in my life at the moment. For a long time, I found myself possessing the majority of those traits. I thought, "This is just who I am. I can't change that." Wrong. So Wrong. Most of these traits were handed to me, and probably you too, without request. With the way our society is organized (media, school, parents, etc.), these character traits proliferate. However, it wasn't until I started Un-Learning, that I truly became the well-rounded confident man I am today. Free and fulfilled in ways you can't currently imagine.

Sean describes how to be a true alpha, a man who is living his purpose and authentically and unapologetically being his own man. This is a far cry from the PUA tips of how to act tough and seduce women. This is a guide on how to live your life.

The content is well laid out with a clear preface followed by forty succinct laws. The narration is somewhat overdone in the deep masculine tones. Overall a great book that I'll be coming back to again.

Stoicism is an ancient Greek philosophy which teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a means of overcoming destructive emotions. It does not seek to extinguish emotions completely, but rather seeks to transform them through logic and reason, which enables a person to develop clear judgment, inner calm and freedom from suffering (which is considered the ultimate goal). This book will guide you through the origins and teachings of Stoicism, through direct quotes and experiences from its founding fathers.

The book seems poorly organized jumping from talk about neuroplasticity to the generic advice to "go for a walk" on ocassion to clear the mind. The piece definitely portrays stoicism in a better light than I've seen before. There are plenty of great insights into the philosophy and a few good insights into life.

The book also seems to rambling and conversational. Maybe that's the narrator's fault. I liked Jon Turner's performance of a job advice book, but it felt like his casual delivery and dull inflection undermined this book.

Yep, we’re talking propaganda, the fabrication of “truth”, the outlawing of dissent, the distortion of reality, endless war… and of course, thought crime. No we’re not talking about the goings on on 2011, were talking about the 1949 NBC University Theater’s adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984.

This is an excellent and well performed radio adaptation of a classic work. It's much shorter than the original, but it manages to convey the same storyline and key ideas. Beyond that, it's highly entertaining.

Unfortunately the audio quality is low, and there is at times too much background music and sound effects. Never the less, I'd recommend this recording as a time capsule of what the book meant when published.

This story is about far more than the United States or the Soviet Union. It speaks to the human condition and the nature of power. This story is psychological and political. Most of all it is both timely and timeless.

All hail Big Brother!

No me interesaron. Me reí uno o dos veces, pero no tanto como lo habría querido. Afortunadamente es un audio-libro breve.

This book was helpful in making my decision not to buy the original text. I've never been captivated by Stoicism. However, I want to see if Ryan Holiday had a better take on it. I found the advice to be generic. You could find any text on Stoicism that would share with you the same wisdom. FastReadsd gets four stars for saving me the money to buy the original.

The narration is surprisingly dispassionate. It sounds like the narrator is bored. I'd actually bought this book specifically because I liked one of the narrator's other works. The topic deserves a narrator who sounds confident and strong, not bored.

The way the author writes leads me to believe that his primary qualification for writing this book is that he once got a job via a job interview. The book is too casual for my liking. It sounds more like it's "some guy's opinion" rather than an authoritative guide. I disagree with a few recommendations, but this is written in such that it's clear you should be using your own judgment.

The narration is fantastic. The narrator captures the tone of the writing and brings the casual voice to life. I'll be looking for more by the narrator and less by the author.

Dana is that friend who you know will always tell you the truth. She is that friend that if she says you look good, you know it's sincere. And you only turn to her when you're willing to hear it straight because you know she'll call you on your B.S.

This was the best career advice book that I picked up in a long time (years). I make excuses, and I'm good at convincing myself that those excuses make sense. This book went beyond your standard advice and onward into challenging the blockers I had in place.

I'm sure lots of people can figure out the job world without Dana. For me, I was lost until I found Dana. Within a few weeks of implementing her advice, I found a job that matched all my requirements and more.
