Exceptionally well-rendered history of not just the Vikings and Scandinavian culture before and after the Viking age, but how that history fit into and influenced the greater European developments in that time.
For such a lengthy course, the professor was exceptional at entertainingly communicating the subject matter in a way that held my interest and my interest throughout!

An eloquent story germane to the plight of all who believe government is the cause of and/or the answer to their woes.

Exquisite storytelling. Thoroughly engaging. Character and plot evelopment at it's finest. Hailing from a similar small town in Maine, I found it remarkably true to the reality of the setting, both of place and people.

Absolutely! I already have!

What did you like best about this story?

Russo's ability to depict the humorous aspects of the ordinary lives of these small town academicians.

What does Sam Freed bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A matter-of-fact reading that underscores and enhances the wry, witty, prose of Russo.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. It is a classic that everyone should read (or listen to). I'm glad I finally did.

What other book might you compare Animal Farm to and why?

Of course, Lord of the Flies and 1984, both of which deal with society and power. And how power inevitably manipulates the (usually largely dimmer-witted) followers in society, to the deliberate benefit of those in power.

Which character – as performed by Ralph Cosham – was your favorite?

Boxer. He represents the simpleminded but industrious masses which the authorities utilize to sustain power for themselves.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Another classic I'd never gotten around to reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Depicts well the genesis of the inevitable power struggles that have to occur in any manner of a developing civilization.

What made the experience of listening to Confidence Men the most enjoyable?

Very fascinating to have illuminated the intermingled workings of Washington and those greedy bastards on Wall Street. I thoroughly enjoyed this, even though it made my blood boil at times. It shows how Obama was subtly corralled by some in his cabinet, so they could save their banking friends from full blown popular disgrace....

Have you listened to any of James Lurie’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. He did a fine job with this...

If you could give Confidence Men a new subtitle, what would it be?

I think "Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President" is very apropos.

George Carlin's brilliant mind, his unique comic associative perspective and ability to eloquently relate to the audience, make him a pleasure to listen to. It was enjoyable to re-hear some of his classic works and, of course, I relished the ones I hadn't heard before.

Would you be willing to try another book from George Carlin? Why or why not?

Yes. It's light entertainment with George's comic brilliance.
