This riveting and entertaining thriller by Thomas Perry follows a husband-and-wife con team on the run from the Mob, a soldier of fortune between jobs, a two-bit operator with grandiose dreams of tribal dynasty, a sultry CIA operative with divided loyalties, the most dazzling defector ever to hurl a split-fingered fastball, and 20th-century buccaneers who wash up on a tiny island in the Caribbean and turn it into a multinational cash machine. But then the shooting starts.

Well written and witty, but dated ( written thirty years ago). Characters are never fully developed but lots of adventures and clever solutions to recurring challenges to the scamsters.

A great story enhanced by a masterful narration. The characters are finely drawn, and the narration by Ron Perlman is pitch perfect in capturing the droll wit of Kolya who comes alive as the story progresses and is the perfect companion.

What a great story, and top notch narration. Engaging characters draw you into the plot and surprises kept you on edge. The slow deliberate pace of the opening builds and builds as the story and characters develop. Cleverly plotted with enough twists and turns that the surprises keep coming.

Gripping and dynamic tale of police life in the Big Apple. Masterful narration puts you right there, on the streets and in the precincts, with the cops, their snitches, their political bosses and the drug dealers and other assorted bad guys.

Gritty and graphic as to the seamy side of urban life, but ultimately boring due to totally unsympathetic characters who were all losers. This is the first and only Audible book that I abandoned without finished. Got about 2/3 of the way through and just could not justify wasting any more time on characters I could not care less about.
