Keenly observed and written with his insightful and deadpan sense of humor, Bragg explores enduring Southern truths about home, place, spirit, table, and the regions' varied geographies, including his native Alabama, Cajun country, and the Gulf Coast.

In this epic drama from beloved radio personality Tom Bodett, a host of unforgettable characters from the end of the road - Alaska - venture to the lower 48 to discover an America they barely recognize. The first to arrive is Ed Flannigan, who has one arm, no job, and not a clue about how to get on with his life.

The author is a wonderful narrator. He should have also read the chapter names. The style of those brief inserts was misplaced and not pleasant.

Predictable to a fault. A tad silly. Not worth the time or money. Wished it were better, as the concept seemed good. Would not try anther.

We enjoyed the book very much, and preferred hearing Dr. Krauthammer read his essays. The other reader was good but seemed a little hurried, and was not able to convey the same depth of meaning in his reading as the author.
