You can get the message from this book in the first few chapters. Perhaps some readers (listeners) appreciate this, as they may be reading this book for that very reason - to hear this author’s experience & lessons learned in a way that they won’t forget.
But I felt she was just saying the same thing with different sentences. (Isn’t that what editors are for?!)

A friend recommended this as a break from my usual historical novels. I liked it - reminded me of Luckiest Girl Alive except much less gore.
The story is told out of order, which makes for an interesting POV & allows you to slowly pick apart the characters as how they fit into the plot.
I gave it 3 stars for performance, not really because I didn’t like the narrator, but I think I would have liked this book more if I read it myself.
But overall I liked it, would read more from this author in book form.

Joseph Ingram made the mistake of stealing from me - four million dollars. He took my intelligence without paying for it. And thought he could get away with it. Now I'll take something from him - something irreplaceable. His sister. Collateral. But even when Joseph doubles the amount of money he owes me, I don't give her up. Nope. I have an image to maintain. So I keep her. And I'm not giving her up.

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I clearly did not do my research before getting this. Can’t judge a book (audio or paper) by its cover.....warning - this is NOT a good option for Diana Gabaldon fans after finishing the Outlander series!!! Oops.
Writing is juvenile, repetitive & the content is about kidnapping, rape, etc. if that’s your thing then ok. But not what I had in mind!

When I read that this book included a lot about Briana & Roger, I thought it would be one of those books to "get through" til the story went back to Jamie & Clare. Oh, but once again I was hypnotized by Ms. Gabaldon's writing - by the middle of the book, I was wrapped up in their relationship & their adventures, craving more! There's plenty of J & C in this one, of course taking them to even an even richer & more intimate union. There are several parts of DOA that I re-read simply because it was so much fun to read! I'm making myself pause for 24 hours before starting TFC, I may not make it.
