The premise of the story is absolutely believable, with the caveat that a couple of the incidents could have been better developed. Having said that, I absolutely loved the trilogy and was impressed with the almost seamless segue from book to book. Other than my first comment above on 'incident development', my only "less than five stars" rating was for the narrator. In the end I have to give him a well earned "four star" rank (surprising myself after my first impression of this narrator). Expect to be frustrated at first listen with the narrator's continuous "rapid-drop inflections" at the end of virtually every sentence (sounding much like the less experienced small market news reporters who have not yet learned how to effectively utilize this powerful technique). I ALMOST, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, RETURNED AN AUDIBLE BOOK (the narrator was, at first, was that disruptive to the listening experience). However...I AM GLAD I DID NOT DO IT!!! Because other than this issue, the narrator is MORE than competent and (I think) gifted and consistent in his "character voice" changes. BOTTOM LINE: Now that you know this single flaw, try to work through and ignore it initially and you will be rewarded with an excellent story that is engrossing, entertaining and which, literally, made my heart pump with excitement over and over!!! Book Was Worth Price Paid.

... and the story was as reliably engrossing and compelling as I have come to expect from the Clancy/Greaney collaboration. The premise was topical and believable (enjoyed the timeline back and forth flashback motif), but this yarn was a bit more predictable than usual for the series (although I must admit that this observation was born of my being very spoiled by the consistent excellent quality of "the unexpected" aspect of the series!). Having said that, this was still another product "... worth price paid!...", (as I have come to expect) from Clancy/Greaney and "...well worth the listen!..."

Although his father had been reluctant to become a field operative, Jack Ryan Jr. wants nothing more. Privately training with a seasoned Special Forces drill instructor, he’s honing his skills to transition his work within The Campus from intelligence analysis to hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can—even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns for re-election as President of the United States. But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and the personal have just become equally dangerous.

Series continuity is wonderful and Mr. Phillips' has a knack for audio. I've never listened to a book with start to finish sound effects, but it would be cool for this series.

In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Jack Ryan has only just moved back into the Oval Office when he is faced with a new international threat. An aborted coup in the People's Republic of China has left President Wei Zhen Lin with no choice but to agree with the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. They have declared the South China Sea a protectorate and are planning an invasion of Taiwan. The Ryan administration is determined to thwart China’s ambitions, but the stakes are dangerously high as a new breed of powerful Chinese anti-ship missiles endanger the US Navy's plans to protect the island.
