The McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop has crickets running rampant in the store and hot sauce in the Snack Shack's ketchup bottles. But as the county coroner, Frankie has enough on her plate without worrying about the increasingly mean pranks being played at her family's business. And the arrival of Sheriff Eric Linden, both devastatingly attractive and painfully taciturn, is enough to push her over the edge.

I don’t understand the appeal of this book. I got halfway through the book before I gave up – I didn’t want to waste any more of my time in hopes it’d get better. If the author can’t grab my attention in 8 hours there is no hope imo The premise of the story has potential but the characters and their interactions are, for the most part, mundane.

I just couldn’t get into this book. First off the narrator sounds like he should be narrating a Kurt Vonnegut book not a sci-fi romance. The premise of the story is good but none of the characters or their interactions were interesting to me. I just wasn’t entertained. I stopped listening halfway through.

This book had potential, there just wasn’t much to the relationship – they got together very easily and any conflict they had was quickly resolved and all the drama of the male leads job could’ve been used to add an interesting plot to the story but it never really materialized. There was just nothing interesting in the story – I wasn’t looking forward until the next time I could continue listening. The writer is good but the story needs work

I listened to about an hour or 2 of this book and couldn’t be bothered to go on listening to it. The book seems to start in the middle of a story and doesn’t establish the characters or the premise of the story. As the story proceeds there is nothing in it that is engaging – a girl with newly minted powers out of her depth and that point emphasized several different ways over and over. No foreshadowing that something interesting may happen in the story if you keep listening – it just seemed like the book was going to be full of the main character getting used to harnessing her new powers on super natural creatures as well as getting herself into and out of sticky situations. Seems very generic and boring.

It started out like any other morning on the train - until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle. He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world. Who did the stuck-up suit think he was...God? Actually, he looked like a god. That was about it.

Cold, fine drops of rain fall softly on Evie's cheeks as she emerges from the darkness of the ship's interior to the gray, overcast sky of the main deck. Pulling her dark peacoat tighter to her body, the wind lifts red tendrils of her hair. She walks slowly to the railing overlooking the water. She catches her first sight of the Irish coastline; its craggy landscape makes her shiver in dread. She finds it difficult to imagine now how the Gancanagh had made this their home for so long without anyone realizing it.

Evie's whiney, stubborn, irrational, over-emotional personality is grating. She's been on enough adventures that she should've developed some sort of thick skin instead of remaining a weak-minded female. It makes it really hard to understand how Evie is so appealing to every man when she's so annoying. If you can withstand Evie's annoying personality - its a good story. I will only finish the series because I've already been through all of the other books and might as well complete the series.

This is the 3rd book where the theme was "trapped in a game" and I think this genre is not for me. It seems that when authors pick this theme they think the fact that the characters are in the game is engaging enough and the whole story. I need more of a story - I stopped listening half way through, wasn't interesting to me.
