On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she almost paid the ultimate price. She was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive. All that changes the day she stops at the grocery store for some carrots. As the cashier rings up her purchases, a gunman is busy robbing the bank inside the store. seriously, don't get this book. it's really terrible. I don't know what's worse: the horrible plot line, idiotic protagonist, lack of character development or terrible narration.

I normally love WWII novels. the portion of this book told by Lena is captivating, and if it were only that I'd give this book 4-5 stars. Liam and Cat are just the worst, though. they are so flat and so annoying. the narrator is awful, though I can't tell if that's her fault or if it's because she's not given much to work with. seriously. I cannot stress enough how much Cat and Liam ruin this book.

What about Kate Mulgrew’s performance did you like?

I loved that Kate narrated her own book.

Any additional comments?

The book was a great read, up until the very end. It seemed to end so suddenly and unceremoniously that I found myself saying, "really? That's how it ends??"
