This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

There just is something in it that makes me listen to it over and over again. There aren't many books like this. I work outside alone a lot and listen to books in audible to make my mind happy while doing simple repetitive tasks. Somehow this book is one of those that I have listened to more than few times. I enjoy the narrator and enjoy the story and I enjoy well thought through plot. For me, it is one of the best King's stories.

There is all you need for a good love story - hot feelings, hesitations and hard choices, bad people and good people, bit action to make your heart beat faster as well. So I recommend it if you like romantic and sweet stories laid out in past.

It is not that the idea of this story is bad or narration is bad... But the story develops very slowly and the narrator reads very slowly with hypnotic sleepy voice and it makes you feel that nothing happens and you kind of wait all the time that soon, very soon you get more information or something happens... But no... I have mixed feelings... The idea is very good and now we have even movie for this book but still book itself read like that makes me frustrated.
