I know this is suppose to be a steamy story but I just couldnt get past how pathetic the women were in this story. They are suppose to be sucessful ambitious professionals but they were so whiny and needy and just stupid one dimensional characters. Also all the characters sounded exactly the same. I could barely finish the story. The men were also one dimensional self centered pricks.

Life has taught Lucas Kendrick, duke of Harndon, that a heart is a decided liability. Betrayed by his elder brother, rejected by his fiancée, banished by his father, and shunned by his mother, Luke fled to Paris, where he became the most sought-after bachelor in fashionable society. Ten years later fate has brought him back home to England as head of the family who rejected him. Unwilling as he is to be involved with them, he must assume responsibility for his younger siblings, the family estate he once loved - and the succession.

I was astounded at the pure stupidity of this heroine...she was given so many opportunities to confess all to the hero...I understand that she didnt believe she could trust him in the befinning but even after he told her he loved her she still didnt tell him about this huge perceived threat in her life...and the villain was so bizarre and unbelievable...Im a huge fan of Mary Balogh but this one is definitely not up to par...

Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts - parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.

I love all the Monster Hunter stories but I particularly like this one as it explained Frank's origin story. Frank's has always been a fascinating character to me and I really loved the fact that he got his own story. Reader was awesome as usual.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I've bought and listened to every single book in this series. I always look forward to another book in the series with relish and anticipation. I loved the idea of having a book in Alice's point of view, however the narrator absolutely ruined it for me. If the author reads these ratings PLEASE PLEASE let Christopher Evan Welch do the narration in the future. He is absolutely fantastic and gets me really involved in the story. I almost gave up on this book because I couldnt stand the narrator and that has never happened to me before with this series. I will defintiely not be buying any more books in the series if Angela Goethals is kept as narrator. Christopher did such an amazing Alice... why change a good thing???

What didn’t you like about Angela Goethals’s performance?

Compared to Christopher, her narration of the story was dull and boring. I actually felt sleepy listening to her voice and drifting from the story.

Was I Am Alice worth the listening time?

I really wanted to love this book because I love Alice's character. I just couldnt get over the monotone voice that at some parts were breathy like Marilyn Monroe? I didnt know if the narrator was trying to sound scared or excited?

Any additional comments?

The story itself is interesting and had promise. Just couldnt get into book because of narrator.
