The story seems to have a strong plot, but the details were boring.
The overall sense I get from the reading is dull, cloudy and grey- sprinkled with crass misogynistic comments from our Heroes, casual and rampant raping by the bad guys, and even an unpleasant gnashing local animal.
The professor, whose analysis of the decline of Empires is the most interesting aspect, but it is dribbled out like a footnote
