From 1926 to 1928, Gordon Stewart Northcott committed at least 20 murders on a chicken ranch outside of Los Angeles. His nephew, Sanford Clark, was held captive there from the age of 13 to 15, and was the sole surviving victim of the killing spree. Here, acclaimed crime writer Anthony Flacco - using never-before-heard information from Sanford’s son Jerry Clark - tells the real story behind the case that riveted the nation.

I couldn't stop listening to this book. It was an incredible story and the narration was so good it brought the story alive. There were a few parts that nearly made me sick... it isn't for everyone as it has details of the murders. But since it was a first hand account, it was necessary to the story and helped me understand the main character's later difficulties better. Would definitely recommend.

In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the female Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup "unicorn" promised to revolutionize the medical industry with a machine that would make blood testing significantly faster and easier. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes' worth at an estimated $4.7 billion. There was just one problem: The technology didn't work.

I'm fine with unlikable characters as long as I don't get misled as to what the story is about. I thought the story was going to be about a murder and trying to find out who committed it. Instead around chapter 3 the story took a right hand turn into the "Story of Ian". I personally didn't find it to be very likely at all that he committed the murder. I have no idea why the authors chose to spend so much time investigating this angle. I am a big fan of Undisclosed and other True Crime podcasts about the wrongfully accused so I do not mind a good story about how an investigation went wrong. Instead this was chapter after chapter of nothing.... just a rehashing of the same leads that were obviously going nowhere and then more evidence to convince you that Ian is truly unlikable. Well, I'm convinced. What I am not: satisfied. Very disappointed.

A few minutes before midnight on April 14, 1912, the "unsinkable" RMS Titanic, on her maiden voyage to New York, struck an iceberg. Less than three hours later she lay at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. While the world has remained fascinated by the tragedy, the most amazing drama of those fateful hours was not played out aboard the doomed liner. It took place on the decks of two other ships, one 58 miles distant from the sinking Titanic, the other barely 10 miles away.
