This is the account of a man's life that you follow from his early years to his final ones. You laugh with him, cry with him, get angry with him (and sometimes at him) but through it all he shows the human spirit at its finest. Beautiful read; I'd recommend it to anybody.

Ever since I stumbled across Coyne's "Why Evolution Is True" I've watched many of his lectures and talks. This book does not disappoint. It shows the inconsistencies latent in attempting to merge faith in a westernized personal Judeo-Christian God with what we've discovered about nature thus far. Excellent read and I definitely recommend the book.

It was interesting to walk through how the greek city states came together under Macedon in order to respond to the super power of its age. Alexander truly was a remarkable individual and definitely set the tone for generations that would come after him.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to how the mighty persian empire rose and fell. Professor Lee does an excellent job of painting a vivid picture of the dynamics of the ancient empire and keeping the journey interesting at the same time. He does a remarkable job making the Persians actually human in spite of the negative stereotypes they are labeled with.
