Melissa Craig is settling in nicely to a new teaching position in the quaint little village of Upper Bembury, getting to know her way around, drinking tea with the eccentric staff, even sewing the first seeds of romance. But when she arrives one morning to find police outside her classroom, Melissa is shocked to hear that her beautiful colleague Angelica has been found dead in her home. As everyone in Angelica’s life comes under suspicion, Melissa makes it her mission to go in search of the truth.

I agree with the previous comments in regard to the inconsistencies with the character and her actions, most annoying was the way she a supposedly intelligent woman who also writes detective novels and did not pick up any 'clues' from the murderer when first speaking to her ... and then sat around talking to a obviously distressed woman behind a locked door AND DID NOT RING EMERGENCY OR THE POLICE at once... this spoiled the book for me.

The story is boring the Narrator appalling. I had to change the narration speed to to try to make it better but then the story bored me silly - I got this for a credit and still couldn't stand it

Twenty years ago little Brian Arlington was kidnapped from his family's Long Island estate and was never seen again. The trail went cold, but investigative journalist Griff Hadley has always thought there was more to the story - much more. When the Arlingtons' patriarch invites him to stay at their estate to research his true crime book, Griff can't say no. It's the story of a lifetime. But not everyone is happy about Griff's presence. Relatives and staff alike regard him coldly, including Pierce Mather, the Arlingtons' attractive lawyer.

Jolie Gentil moves to Great Aunt Madge's bed and breakfast at the Jersey shore, taking her cat, Jazz, and joining Madge's pair of prune-eating dogs. Jolie does not view this as a retreat, just a smart change. She had no idea her life was about to get even more complicated. Jolie is reestablishing friendships with Scoobie and Ramona, dodging low-level wise guy Pedone, and (oops!) finding a dead body.
