There's one woman though who can break down his walls. Someone who knew him then. Who can reach inside to that heart he protects fiercely, because she's the only one he ever gave it to. When they collide, it's tender and savage, gentle and rough, and makes them both hungry for more of this electric, once-in-a-blue moon kind of sexual chemistry. But it's a battle of wills between Michael and the woman he loves, with words and emotions held close to the vest.

When the affair comes to light, the congressman doesn't take the fall, but Aviva does, and her life is over before it hardly begins. She becomes a late-night talk show punchline; she is slut shamed and considered a blight on politics in general. How does one go on after this?

I was bored and annoyed and bored by this. I slogged thru first 4 chapters & then acted on my NEw Years resolution to DNF books that aren't for me . No more dutiful death marches to end of an unfulfilling book.
Took too long to get going. I didn't want to spend another second with the character who narrated the early chapters. It wasn't funny or charming or endearing. So I bailed.

Any additional comments?

This was a good YA tale based on classic yarns like Prisoner of Zenda except with a teenage hero. It was a little too long and since it was translated many of the names were hard to absorb/follow but I would recommend a listen based on the good narration and story.

He is gripping a tree trunk, wearing blood-filled sneakers and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective. When a girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox must investigate a case chillingly similar to the unsolved mystery.

What did you love best about In the Woods?

Loved all the detectives. Liked the ambiguousness of the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that nothing was tied up. That's how life really is.

What does Steven Crossley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoyed his narration a lot - I just think I should have read THIS book. The pace as a listen was too deliberate. I wished I had the book so I could speed read thru a lot of it. It's not narrator's fault that the story as written is so deliberately.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nope. This just wasn't an optimal audio book for me. The pacing is very deliberate and I found myself drifting off and having to listen again. I think it took me almost 8 additional hours to listen to the book.

Any additional comments?

I'm really conflicted b/c I really liked the book. I just think that as written it isn't the optimal "listen" for me. I went out and purchased the actual paperbacks of books 2-5 immediately after finishing so I liked the book. I just found myself annoyed by the pace of the story as an audiobook in a way that I think I could have read faster or skipped entirely in a book. I found myself impatiently waiting for something to happen over and over. This just wasn't the best audiobook choice for me. I thought the narrator was a little too mature for the hero, I kept picturing derek jacobi...

Would you consider the audio edition of Sustained to be better than the print version?

Yes. LOVED Sebastian York's characterization of Jake. Added so much to story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Chelsea's total breakdown was heartbreaking [not going to spoil why].

Any additional comments?

Family situations are realistic, kids were authentic and Jake's slow unconscious transition from master of one-night-stands to family man was a great read. LOVED this.

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn't see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman...who wants to crush the most intimate - and prized - parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins. When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I loved this series and this book fleshed out Brent and his love story. Constant misunderstandings in past are hurdle to these two finding happiness. Really captures how horrible kids are and how scarring bullying and parental expectations can be.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Appealed?

Brent putting Cashmere in place and taking her adolescent victory over Kennedy from her.

What does Deacon Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I took a while to warm to Deacon's performance, didn't really like in beginning, felt like it was too flighty, but as story went on and Brent's personality was revealed I grew to really like it and felt it added to experience.
