When Nick Patterson signed up for the Navy reserves, he just wanted some money for medical school. He never imagined he’d someday find himself fighting for life and limb in the sands of Iraq. Frustrated by a military bureaucracy he cannot begin to understand and an increasingly pointless war, he doubts why he is there and what he is doing.Β  When the plucky and idealistic MEDIVAC pilot Samantha Brown crashes into his life, he sees another side to the war.Β

It took me a little while to get swept in to the story. To be completely honest, it was having it told by a woman when it was all men and war in the beginning. But don’t take that wrong because Kelli White did an outstanding job. Geez, even differentiating accents and tones. But I usually prefer male narrators and this book is almost entirely Nick’s point of view.

Some of the story was easily predictable but not he tragedies they all experienced from war. I learned a lot about military procedure. Scenes are given a lot of depth and it was easy to visualize what people and their surroundings looked like. Characters’ personalities were developed so well that tragedies hurt and triumphs elated. Not to give anything away but I wish I could have spent more time with a certain mouthy doctor... but anyway, there was a satifying HEA.

I read the sequel, SKIN, last year and finally had to nab this. Kylie is one of the best writers when it comes to setting moods and feeling people. This zombie apocalypse romance becomes 100 percent believable, even in situations where other books would fail. The second book is a must read, even though this is a standalone, just because you will want more!

If J. Bengstton writes it, you can bet on it being a 5-star book. You’ll laugh at the banter, cringe at the angst, shiver at the tense moments and sigh with the love. Bodhi has known nothing but preparation for and of the life of a pop star. After losing his mother during his birth his father raised him alone. Discovering his pre-school son's singing talent, he put his son on narrow and singular path for success...
Bodhi is in a boy band with hits all over the charts and loved by every teenage girl. He was happy, in what he assumed his life should be, until the letter. From his mother. And that made him question everything.
His confusion and questions caused poor decisions and landed Bodhi in a timeout retreat alone in California. But the winds picked up and changed direction putting the entire area directly in line with raging fires. On his race to save his life he almost hits a girl in the road. Breeze.
Once again, his life changes. Only this time even he doesn’t know what’s coming.

Narration is SPOT ON.

I was listening to it in bed with a timer and I snort-laughed so loud over some line that it scared my cat! Ruby Dixon does NOT write stupid & cheesy dialogues and the world building is adequate with believable situations. I now plan on listening to more of her work.

A set of three very fun and fast capers involving Sam Savage, Sky Marshall. In the first book he is actually on a jet with a terrorist threat. The second he is on a train and the third, well, the ground, anyway. In all three Sam is beaten, passes out, and realistically loses a fight or two, unlike the overplayed Alpha Super Hero in a lot of books. He’s a charmer and HAS a different woman in each episode. The only problem I had was every emergency stretched to the last possible second... I thought, “No way could all that happen in 3 minutes!”

I do love narrations by Andrew Wehrlen but he talked SO FAST in these, especially the women’s voices. But he does do a good woman’s voice as well as (obviously) a hot man’s voice.

I’ll give it 2 Thumbs!

A very well written story about one man’s long harbored prejudices against an entire race because of the actions of few. He’s a good man and deep down he knows his attitude is shallow minded and wrong. When a woman who stirs up that biased hatred falls in love with him, he must come to terms with the truth. Can he hold against an entire race the long ago actions of a few? And what will he lose if he does?

Jay Smith does a good job narrating. My interest is now piqued in listening to more from this author!

I’ve listened to many Michelle A. Valentine audiobooks and she’s not disappointed me once. LOVE SEX MUSIC exposes the back scene temptations of the music industry that almost ruined Lazarus’ life and he’s walking the straight an very narrow to earn it back. But another temptation awaits him as he takes on an upcoming female band as their producer. Love may be patient, and Love may be kind, but it isn’t always. Drea has hopes of making it in music but it’s been an uphill and brutal fight. Her hope is pinned on Laz, and he’s finding it hard to be patient and kind for the girl that’s now his addiction. Solid love story with heat and angst and a HEA.

A pretty good standalone because I didn’t feel like I missed much by not having listened to Book One, "Captain of My Heart.” It’s a story about false judgements and coming to terms with a different truth. About family and love and loss and recovery. The idea of the outcast son replacing his father’s role is a good one. The story would have benefitted by being longer.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks so I’m a bit picky about narration. Giselle Lumas, the author, does a fine job narrating, but IMHO not at a professional level.
