kind of mixed feelings about this story. Was pretty good up until the end which seem kind of unbelievable. and almost stopped listening a couple times due to narrator's loud swallowing and smacking of lips. I know that sounds odd but it was kind of distracting

was really excited this book. the main story was kinda creepy/good. But it seemed to drag ooooonnnnnn. don't know why author would have 2 characters with similar names?? Maris and Merritt. I listen to this on audio book and was sometimes sounded the same. And the "My momma" thing was very annoying!! Just Disappointed. Gave a 3 because the narrator was pleasant and I like this author, which I have read other books by that were much better.

Nora Brown teaches high school English and lives a quiet life in Seattle with her husband and six-year-old daughter. But one November day, moments after dismissing her class, a girl's face appears above the students' desks - a wild numinous face with startling blue eyes, a face floating on top of shapeless drapes of purples and blues where arms and legs should have been. Terror rushes through Nora's body - the kind of raw terror you feel when there's no way out, when every cell in your body, your entire body, is on fire - when you think you might die.

Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with.
