Shortly before dawn on a frigid morning in Radom, Poland, twenty-one year-old Joe answered a knock at the door of the cottage he shared with his widowed mother and siblings. German soldiers forced him onto a crowded open-air truck. Wearing only an undershirt and shorts, Joe was left on the truck with no protection from the cold. By the next morning, several around him would be dead. From there, things got worse for young Joe, much worse.

Captivating and Surreal, a book every Man and Woman must experience.

At the beginning of each Chapter, you can hear Joe Rubenstein, the man himself speak a line. Although it's difficult to clearly understand, still certainly a nice sentiment.

This was the first personal narrative of the Nazi concentration camps that I've read. It was tragic, humbling, cruel, and captivating. This book will take you on an incredible journey of the darkest times of humanity as you pray for the safety of the narrator and cover your mouth as you hear the despicable acts committed against the Jews.

On May 21, 2014, Admiral William H. McRaven addressed the graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin on their Commencement day. Taking inspiration from the university's slogan, "What starts here changes the world," he shared the 10 principles he learned during Navy Seal training that helped him overcome challenges not only in his training and long Naval career, but also throughout his life; and he explained how anyone can use these basic lessons to change themselves - and the world - for the better.

Not the best narrator, but I can certainly appreciate that the author wanted to narrate for himself.

The book is split into chapters which covers a specific life lesson during his time in the Navy. Each of these gives context to the lessons in his speech at the end of the book. The best chapter was the End of the book where he recites the same speech given to the UT Austin's Graduating Class of 2014, summarizing the whole book in one chapter.

Listening to that speech recited by the man himself was worth the price of the book (or you can just youtube it). This book is for those who are interested in learning the stories and context behind his famous speech.

One of the genre's favorite pairs returns in a classic fantasy short for both Riyria veterans and first-time readers. Several years have passed since the war-weary mercenary Hadrian and cynical ex-assassin Royce joined forces to start their thieves-for-hire organization better known as Riyria. Things have gone well enough for the team as they do "jobs" for various nobles throughout Elan. Usually that means stealing something, but when a young heiress asks them to steal her…well, that's a first for the pair.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A thief, a candlemaker, an ex-mercenary, and a pig farmer walk into a trap…and what happens to them is no joke. When Riyria is hired to retrieve a jester’s treasure, Royce and Hadrian must match wits with a dwarf who proves to be anything but a fool. Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive.

Any additional comments?

To give listeners an idea of what to expect, the book is about a man who goes on a spiritual retreat where he meets a teacher that gives him and a group of others lessons on servant leadership, the power of loving others, and faith in God, among others. Every day this group of people learn from this teacher and you (the listener) also learn what they learn.

Pros: The Narrator does a really great job of creating unique distinct voices for every character.

Cons: Maybe I had too many expectations going in since I knew the book is supposedly a Classic.
-The book is saturated with overused quotes
-I'm also not religious and Christianity seemed to be a big component to this book
-I found the ideas in the book to be very abstract and didn't feel that the book gave clear directions on how to actively practice each lesson in your life
