This installment of this series was very emotional and intense! I'm so overwhelmed with the sequence of events. So much chaos and strife and these poor teenagers are thrown into violence and grief. I couldn't stop at all with this book. I need the next now!

One important lesson I've learned in the assassination business is that to be the best, you have to roll with the punches. Now that I'm queen of Ashland's underworld - by default, not by choice - a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that's the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld's top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position.

There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill - and my murder to plan. With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.

Gin is, by far and away, the most powerful elemental ever. She's also like a cat, with 9 lives. She can survive even a blaze to destroy the Pork Pit. How she manages to defeat even death is unbelievable. This is a true testament to her abilities. Yet, the cycle continues in the blood feud between the Snow's and the Monroe's.

Gin can really find herself in a pickle at times. Her Pro Bono work is liable to get her killed someday. When she inadvertantly helps one of her employees from the Pork Pit, she ends up as a lab rat.... literally! In the end, Gin does what she does best and whips the bad guys into submission (I mean death!). Long term she has a new assistant. Things are about to get ugly in Ashland.

For the first time, the full origin story of Gin Blanco's transformation into the fearsome assassin known as the Spider - book 10 in the red-hot Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series. In a prequel tale, Gin Blanco goes through her paces on the way to become the most feared assassin in the Ashland. Her mentor, Fletcher Lane, is not going to go easy on her - if she’s going to become a fearsome killer, she has to learn to use her elemental Stone and Ice powers alongside old-fashioned human street smarts.

As always, Jennifer Estep has brought the bad to Ashland. The big bad is here to kill Gin. But honestly, what is Mab thinking? She obviously isn't, because there is no way she can kill the Spider. This book brings to light all those people that love Gin and accept her for who she is. I love the intensity and the drama.
