I already loved this story, and have taken to audible to "reread" books I love by listening. The story itself is extremely engaging and carries so many great themes and characters.

The narration of this was mostly good. The narrator is not too flowery - some of her voices and accents bothered me for certain characters. I'm not sure if that was her choice or someone else's choice though.

Orphaned and trained on a spymaster’s remote estate, Kali is a scout who works alone in the shadows. But when a terror group threatens the Dansil throne, the king forces Kali to accept a mission at the palace or forfeit her sister’s life. Suddenly thrust into the light, Kali must infiltrate high society as the royal Lady Lianna while penetrating the servant ranks as Kal, a male guardsman trainee. It doesn’t help that Trace, the harsh and enigmatic captain of the king’s guard, is soon assigned as both Lady Lianna’s palace escort and Kal’s commanding officer.

Story: Political intrigue? Check. Interesting and imperfect heroine? Check. Excellent world building? Check. Slow burn romance? Check. Tracing shadows is easily my favorite book by Alex Lidell so far. I devoured it via kindle in a matter of days, and was excited to "reread" via audiobook.

Performance: Not the best narrator I have ever listened to, but not bad by any means. This book is performed well, and the distinct voices of the characters come out strong.

A cowardly captain. An incompetent crew. A mission she can't fail. Nile and her small band of loyal midshipmen saved the ship, and Captain Rima might just kill them for it... one young officer at a time. No one and nothing on the Aurora is safe anymore, least of all Nile's explosive secrets or her connection with Domenic, which vibrates between them like a cutlass speared into the deck. When the shifting tide of war suddenly turns Aurora's backwater outpost into a vital battleground, Nile faces an impossible choice between duty and freedom.

Alex Lidell's books are insta-reads for me (as soon as she releases them, I need to get my hands on them!) I read book 1 of the Tides series via Kindle, and listening to book 2 (War and Wind) via audiobook was a real treat!

Narration: This performance was exceptional. This book was beautifully performed by narrator Kaitlin Bellamy. War and Wind was truly brought to life.

Story: This was an amazing follow up to book 1 with higher stakes, more adventure, and romance. Niall is such a great and realistic main character

Iyou are looking for a well narrated YA fantasy sailing adventure with a little bit of romance done right, you definitely need to try these books!

Being able to complete one of my most beloved series by listening to a full-cast audiobook and narrated by Bruce Coville himself was an amazing experience. Bruce Coville, in addition to being a brilliant writer, is also an amazing narrator and the voices for this book were cast perfectly for each character. The full cast brings something extra to such an epic fantasy story.

Regarding the book itself - I read it back in 2010 when it originally was released, and loved it then. I began this series in elementary school and while it took many years to finally get the conclusion, I think that the books and world of Luster grew into something so epic that I am glad I was unable to read (and listen to) such a complex conclusion until my twenties when I could fully appreciate it.
