This was quite possibly the most amazing story that I have ever read that was an individual book and not a series. I listened to the whole 40 hours in about 4 days. It is truly a masterfully written epic.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

He, like everyone else in this nightmare, had his memory scrambled or lost in the process of being loaded into the game. A single garbled message is his only clue to how to save everyone. The problem is that whoever loaded them into the game loaded their minds completely.

I would like to start out by saying that I received this book for free for this review.

Pros: A fun and interesting take on the new genre. I will definitely be grabbing the rest of the series. Jeff Hayes does an awesome job on the narration. His distinct voices and accents are awesome for audio.

Cons: since the genre is so specific, there are obviously elements taken from other stories. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't get specific. The audio levels are a bit off in the beginning, although they seem to level out after the first 30specific or so. This being the first book i expected a bit more world building, but honestly I didn't even think about that until after finishing as the characters and their development kept me pretty engrossed.

So, I started this book because my fiancé loved it and wanted to see the upcoming movie. Also, knowing her penchant for the sad and having read The Fault In Our Stars at her suggestion, I already kind of knew what I was getting myself into. even with all of that it was an intriguing book. I enjoyed the characters and thought that it was incredibly well done. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was because even though it was great it didn't elicit the emotion that others of this genre have.

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it’s also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria. In the wake of Odd’s most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor’s comforts should be welcome. But there’s far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven.

What did you love best about Balance?

The newness of the concept. The grey-scale story of a black and white world.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obi was because of his humanity and interesting background.

Which character – as performed by Jeff Hays – was your favorite?

Josette. He did such a fantastic job of the young girl's voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I giggled a few times.

Any additional comments?

Think the show Supernatural on a larger more balanced scale.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

This was the first King novel that I've experienced, and I must say that I was beyond impressed. The story itself was amazing and every time that I had to stop listening to it, I felt that I was being robbed.

The writing and research were equally impressive. The detail with which King embellishes the towns and big player characters made me really feel for Jake and those around him.
