Disgraced during the Demon War, Dwarf investigator Snazdaggin Kundarik (Spade to his friends) wants nothing more than a desk to sleep on, a bottle of grog to drink, and the occasional easy case for quick pay. Then a mysterious female Elf from the posh side of town shows up and offers him exoneration for his past sins and lots of gold. All he has to do is follow her brother and report his activities. Simple, right? He should have known better. The simple job soon spirals out of control.

When Rowan Price stumbles across Delgado's team in an abandoned house, he is assigned to make contact with her, bring her in, and keep her alive - because Rowan is one of the most powerful psychics the resistance has ever encountered. If the government gets its hands on her, she could very well mean the downfall of the resistance, because nobody, not even Rowan, is quite sure how far her talents extend. The Society will welcome Rowan, if she can stay alive long enough to join them.

The author started the book with a hook to get listeners involved and interested right away. She ended the book with a cliff hanger which is a wise move for an author . Listeners are left to wait for the next book. The characters and story were very interesting but the writing could have been improved. There is a lot of repetition of thoughts and phrases. The narrator, Rayna Cole, saved the book by portraying each character's appearance, personality, and feelings throughout the book. She was able to help the listener picture the characters and events in the story. Her character voices were believable and she used her voices very well to show a wide range of emotions. I would enjoy listening to more books narrated by Rayna Cole . 5 stars for the narrator and 3 for the author.

I really enjoyed these short stories. The author created interesting and humorous characters. The narrator did an amazing job of interpreting characters and giving each one a unique voice. He was very good at maintaining those voices throughout all the stories.
