Described as 'the best thriller of the year' Sunday Express, the No. 1 bestseller introduces retired cop Bill Hodges in a race against time to apprehend a killer. A cat-and-mouse suspense thriller featuring Bill Hodges, a retired cop who is tormented by 'the Mercedes massacre', a case he never solved. Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of that notorious crime, has sent Hodges a taunting letter.

Wow. King is the master of suspense, of character development, and of sick little twista and turns that send your stomach twisting, but in a good way. You're not just listening to a story, you're being picked up and flung on a journey. I loved it. The narrator was an absolutely perfect choice.

Robin Wilde has a beautiful six-year-old daughter, a job she's really rather good at, a wonderful best friend and an auntie who is bonkers, yes, but loves her to the moon and back. But Robin has a secret. Behind the mask she carefully applies every day, she can't shift the grey, lonely feelings of The Emptiness. She struggles to fit in with the school mum crew, online dating is totally despair-inducing and she worries all the time about raising her daughter with self-confidence, courage and joy.

I love Louise and her channel, and wanted to like this book, too. I really, really wanted to. It's full of Robin telling us exactly what to think, rather than guiding us along a story. More time is given to describing outfits, cakes and lashes than the really important people - Theo, Aunty Kath and even Lila. I'd love to get to know these people more so that I can come along on the journey with Robin. Louise, you've got talent and the characters are great - I know the upcoming books are going to develop them and your writing style.
