First book by this author, but not the last. Kept me hooked from the first sentence. Lots of twists and turns. Narrator tried to change voices, but it was a little difficult for me to handle because his voice sounded like one that belonged with a middle aged detective.

The Stranger appears out of nowhere, perhaps in a bar or a parking lot or at the grocery store. His identity is unknown. His motives are unclear. His information is undeniable. Then he whispers a few words in your ear and disappears, leaving you picking up the pieces of your shattered world.

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

This was more frightening than any horror book, because it is a real possibility. I felt as if all this was happening as I read it, and even rationed my food intake. I cried and sobbed in several parts of the book. Caution: if you want to have a happy ending, do not choose this book. Reality is not always pretty.

A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far - a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So begins King's instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn't published a book for decades.

Masterful plot weaving as usual. Kept me listening to find out what was going to happen next. The narrator did a great job with multiple voices, making it seem like a movie.
