Simon had always expected love to feel different than this. Whether it was his Catholic upbringing or the poetry he’d read - Simon had thought that true love would be uplifting, fulfilling, that it would give a meaning to his loitering, and add joy to his leisure. But not this kind of love. This love was a flesh-eating monster, sharp-clawed and evil-eyed, ravishing his mind with medieval cruelty.

Roe Horvat is one of my favorite authors. I read this book when it first came out and gobbled it up too quickly. As a result, I missed a lot of the finer points of this complex and emotional story. When the opportunity came along to listen to the audio version I jumped at the chance. The characters and unique setting come to life through the excellent narration of Vance Bastian. He has a fine grasp for voices and difficult accents and it made the listening experience that much better. Horvat excels at writing flawed characters and A Love Song for the Sad Man in the White Coat is heavy on angst and light on fluff. Evocative and unsentimental but masterfully crafted toward the uplifting ending. I loved it!

I'm a huge fan of Tal Bauer and have read Hush several times. When I saw it was available on audible I couldn't resist. Joel Leslie's narration enhanced this great book. His ability to embody different characters is above par. I can't wait for the next collaboration between Bauer and Leslie.

What does Daan Stone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Beautifully narrated!

Any additional comments?

5+ Stars. One of the best books I've read in a long time. I won't go into details (since others have already done the lengthy reviews) so there's no point in rehashing. You'll either love or hate the way this book is crafted. I loved it. Every single page is a joy to read. Gorgeous writing, nothing felt over the top, the dramatic scenes served a purpose, and Henry's intensely emotional story broke my heart several times. Ruben, although young and inexperienced, surprised me in a good way (when he finally got his act together) and the aha moment was worth the long journey. I can't say enough about the feels in this book. Highly recommended.

P.S. This audiobook is beautifully narrated by Daan Stone.

Laurence Fitzroy is trapped in a golden cage. The only son of a wealthy London baronet, he's struggling to escape his father's suffocating world. But Laurie is losing his fight. At 19 years of age, bright and imaginative, he's no match for the brutal Sir William. Laurie wants to be an actor - bad enough as far as Sir William is concerned, but, worse than that, he's gay.

Would you listen to A Midwinter Prince again? Why?

I read this novel when it was first released and posted this review on GR

Another memorable read by Harper Fox. Laurie is an extremely engaging character as is the dark and mysterious, Sasha. This story is part fairy tale, part mystery, with a healthy dose of Harper Fox angst. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it without hesitation.

The audio version performed by the amazing Rusty Coles brings these characters to life. Once again, I was caught up in this beautiful tale. Highly Recommended.
