If you could sum up Arthritis In Dogs: Understanding & Treating Canine Degenerative Joint Disease in three words, what would they be?

DOG LOVERS' RELIEF!

Which scene was your favorite?

Best part of the book is when the author shares his experience with his dog.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Really, this audiobook is best used over several listening sessions. Any pet owner will tell you that one of their great frustrations is seeing their beloved pet suffer. In this book, we learn both the warning signs and methods and remedies to address them...helping greatly to diminish their suffering. The author's insights and tips will actually help you reduce the frequency and cost of vet visits! As for the narrator, I was already a fan of Mr. McBride from some of his other audiobooks, and luckily found this one when I looked up his name to see any new titles. His delivery reflects that of an owner's compassion, and an expert's presentation. As an owner myself, I really appreciate that this wonderful book was written and recorded. Thank you!

What did you like best about this story?

I ordered this for my wife to enjoy, but I found it very moving, too. It absolutely makes you consider what others in your life mean to you, and I would say that our own relationship is closer than ever because of it.

Which character – as performed by John McBride – was your favorite?

I've enjoyed other audiobooks by this narrator in the past. John McBride does a great job bringing all the characters to life, both male and female. His past books made me feel confident that this one would be excellent, and I was not disappointed.

I would say that this audiobook is enjoyable over a number of listens. It will also linger in your mind after you've heard it.

George Washington didn't really walk around with a mouthful of wooden teeth. Those are real teeth and pearl inlays in Washington's dentures. A recent study by Mary Thompson suggests Washington experimented with early dental transplants. He purchased replacement teeth from his slaves for 13 shillings (roughly $50 in 2015 money).

What did you love best about History Bytes: 37 People, Places, and Events that Shaped American History?

Lots of very entertaining short stories, compiled in a way that makes it easy to jump around. It's in chronological order, but you can listen to the "bytes" out of order as they're all complete in themselves. Enjoy listening to a whole story or two on the way to work or when you're out shopping. Great for the "armchair historian" or even the casual, non-history buff listener.

What did you like best about this story?

Well-written, with interesting insights into little-known facts about American history. The narrator does a great job of bringing the stories to life. He reminds me of a passionate teacher in school, who really wants to make history entertaining and enjoyable. Nice and clear, strong but not overwhelming, with some characterizations that reminded me of the Walter Cronkite program, "You Are There."

Have you listened to any of John McBride’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I downloaded John McBride's bio about Sean Connery, so I already knew that he was a fine narrator who does some good impressions. He really knows how to hold a listener's interest.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The chapter on Lincoln's assassination was striking, and helped me to realize that this tragic event is the "hub" around which all American history revolves. The event is as relevant today as it was 150 years ago.

Any additional comments?

This audiobook is a great value, with more than four-and a half hours of stories that seem to go by quickly. Teachers and parents should download this collection of stories to help get kids more interested in the events that have made this country what they live in today.

The life and career of Jack Palance reveals the essence of the man with greater clarity. Palance's childhood played an inestimable role in shaping his values, and he always maintained properties in Pennsylvania where he grew up. Ironically, the connection felt to his roots was countered by the tortuous turns that characterized his career trajectory, which may be one of the most unusual of all time.

Would you listen to American Legends: The Life of Jack Palance again? Why?

I enjoyed this audiobook thoroughly, my only objection being that I would have liked to hear more quotes from Palance. The narrator really captured the actor's famous voice perfectly, bringing him to life. Palance was a fascinating American success story, coming from a hard scrabble Pennsylvania background. Escaping a life that could have been spent in a coal mine, he became a Division 1 football player, prizefighter, and most unlikely movie star.

What did you like best about this story?

You come away from this reading with respect for the man, who retained his parents' working class values. The enthusiasm that the narrator brings to his reading, mirrors the enthusiasm and intensity that Jack Palance brought to all of his roles. Like listening to Robert Osborne on TCM, talking about the great stars of the past, listening to this narrator talking about Palance is like taking a guided tour through a fascinating life.

Have you listened to any of John McBride’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

A friend of mine had purchased "I Miss My Daddy," and found both the story and John McBride's delivery as narrator to be incredibly comforting. Based on that, I went online to find other readings by this narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The structure of this audiobook makes it easy to listen all the way through, or to revisit any specific sections whenever you like. Great for traveling on your daily commute or on a summer vacation. A great "beach" listen.

Any additional comments?

If you only know Jack Palance from his one-armed pushups on the Academy Awards, you've missed out on a fascinating life story..."Believe It or Not!"
