College student Joe Talbert has the modest goal of completing a writing assignment for an English class. His task is to interview a stranger and write a brief biography of the person. With deadlines looming, Joe heads to a nearby nursing home to find a willing subject. There he meets Carl Iverson, and soon nothing in Joe's life is ever the same. Carl is a dying Vietnam veteran-and a convicted murderer. With only a few months to live, he has been medically paroled to a nursing home after spending thirty years in prison for the crimes of rape and murder.

I couldn't put this down! So many twists and turns. Absolutely riveting! Reader was very good, too, and that is so important.

The narration needs to have the volume equalized. She would whisper and I'd lean forward to hear, and then she would be real loud and blast my eardrums. Not as bad with earbuds. But I really enjoyed the story.

Fifteen months ago Detective Lindsay Boxer's life was perfect - she had a beautiful child and a doting husband, Joe, who helped her catch a criminal who'd brazenly detonated a bomb in downtown San Francisco, killing 25 people. But Joe wasn't everything that Lindsay thought he was, and she's still reeling from his betrayal as a wave of mysterious and possibly unnatural heart attacks claims seemingly unrelated victims across San Francisco.

The main story was excellent. The subplot ended a little too conveniently for us. We would definitely read another Patterson book.
