This was my first time reading this author, and I was interested because her work was compared to JD Robb. The novel was interesting, fast-paced, and touching. But listening to the narrator turn her pages, take breaths, and chew gum or suck on mints – never was quite sure which – drove me nuts. I’ve always enjoyed Ellen Travolta’s work, and I think she did a fairly good job of reading this book; but the lack of editing in terms of the sound quality was extremely aggravating. The author/producer might consider having this book re-recorded or the audio remixed. It would be a shame for other readers to be turned off by the lackluster performance, and miss the work of a wonderful author.

It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

That seems to be an odd thing to say about a book that made me cry so much, but there you have it. The tears were offset, though, by moments of fright, and laughter, and the pure enjoyment of spending time with these characters. Beautifully written, brilliantly read.

A scholar specializing in ancient manuscripts, Grace St. John never imagined that a cache of old documents she discovered was the missing link to a lost Celtic treasure. Determined to stop him, Grace needs the help of a warrior bound by duty to uphold the Templar's secret for all eternity.

While reading this latest Linda Howard novel, I was struck by the fact that not only have I read everything she's ever written; but when I looked back over all the authors I adore, Linda Howard is the one I've reread the most, and the one who's left me with the most visceral responses to her books. Without a doubt, The Woman Left Behind is one of her best. I've never been on a journey like this from a non-military woman's perspective. Our heroine is thrust into a new, scary world - and, while acknowledging that she's out of her depth and terrified - nevertheless forges on with courage and tenacity. And the romance! Linda Howard writes alpha males like no other. What I liked most is that Ms. Howard skillfully allows us to fall at the same rate, and with the same trepidation as our heroline, making the journey more satisfying for the bumps along the way. Also, I Whispersync-ed with the Audible book; and the narrator (Saskia Maaleveld) was fantastic - flowing between female an male voices smoothly, while enriching every funny, suspenseful and sexy moment. Enjoy!

From the moment Roan Taggart picked up the pretty redhead at the Jackson Hole airport, his training and experience told him she was spooked. She's left New York City to visit the Wind River Ranch, where Roan is a wrangler, and just as he can pick up a horse's mood, he can feel the tension coming off her body. Let me start by saying I loved the first two books in Jennifer Ryan's "Hunted" series. Romantic suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat, throughout. Imagine my surprise and confusion when in this third book, there was no suspense; only frustration at the dumbest, most clueless hero that ever existed. If not for my certainty that Jennifer Ryan is a wonderful writer, and the brilliant narration by Coleen Marlo, I would've tossed this book aside after the first hour. The situation and the thick-headed hero drove me to distraction. So unrealistic and easily resolved with 21st century science, it was maddening. However, I'm pressing on to read the rest of the series, with the hope that the remaining books will be as engaging as the first two.
