Two-thirds of us have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience, or ACE, such as abuse, neglect, parental substance dependence, or mental illness. Even though these events may have occurred long ago, they have the power to haunt us long into adulthood, and now we have found that they may even contribute to lifelong illness. Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, the founder/CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness and recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award, expands on similar topics as in her popular TED talk.

great read. Though I was already familiar with ACE research, viewing from a medical lens and compelling journey of discovery fires up my heart. I am inspired by the author's goal of ensuring screenings are regular practice and their use in education required. I believe, as she does, that this will save lives, improve education and health outcomes which will, in turn, significantly reduce ACEs in general. My only wish is that there is some way I can participate in making this dream a reality. I recommend this read to all people who serve others in any capacity. Pastors, Priests, educators, Medical practictioners, Managers, bosses, business owners.

There are only two paths in life: average and awesome. The average path is easy because all you have to do is nothing. The awesome path is more challenging, because things like fear only bother you when you do work that matters. The good news is Start gives listeners practical, actionable insights to be more awesome, more often.

Best part of the book was having it read by the author himself. His enthusiasm and knowledge of his content made this a fantastic listen.

the content WAS different from other Get-off-your-rear and #getsomethingdone books because it was specific and up to date. additionally, it is written in a way that can guide a logger or an executive to next steps of a path. Easy read, fun and helpful.

Yes, we all have degrees, and we think that we are successful because we "did school" successfully. we want to share our success with them. So, we ask students to perform as we did. Then we wonder why we aren't reaching all students. So, the students get blamed. This book, can serve as a catalyst for growth toward allowing and offering different approaches to success.

Actually, when I look at it, I already have the degrees, and the certifications and the seasoned level of experiences and even, even the respect one needs. But, I was still waiting. Look out world! I am not waiting anymore.
