The struggle for survival sharpens as resources dwindle, technology fails, and the grim reality of life on Donovan unfolds. Supervisor Kalico Aguila has bet everything on a fragile settlement far south of Port Authority. There, she has carved a farm and mine out of wilderness. But Donovan is closing in.  When conditions couldn't get worse, a murderous peril descends out of Donovan's sky - one that will leave Kalico bleeding and shattered.

This book is basically a continuation of the people of Donovan striving to survive despite numerous hardships. New characters are introduced. I loved Talbot, Kylee and Rocket. Hated Spiro. There is a twist in the plot with some of the new characters that I found very intriguing and sad. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing about the Freelander (the ghost ship) which is what I was really looking forward too. So that was very disappointing. Also, there was a ton of unnecessarily long descriptiveness which really added nothing to the plot. Just made the book extremely long when it didn't need to be that long which is why I only gave 4 stars. I'll get the 3rd book but if it's just another book about the struggles of the people of Donovan, I will be extremely disappointed. I WANT MORE ABOUT THE FREELANDER!

The once-utopian Chasm City - a domed human settlement on an otherwise inhospitable planet---has been overrun by a virus known as the Melding Plague, capable of infecting any body, organic or computerized. Now, with the entire city corrupted - from the people to the very buildings they inhabit---only the most wretched sort of existence remains. The stakes are raised when Tanner Mirabel's search brings him face to face with a centuries-old atrocity that history would rather forget.

The Timpton family is in their Manhattan penthouse when the city beneath them begins to crumble. Streets are gridlocked. Explosions rattle the building. Delivery drones rain from the sky. When their domestic android spirits them away to a secret underground shelter with thousands of others, it seems too good to be true. By the time they start to wonder if it really is too good to be true, there’s no way out.

Mark Boyett has the voice of the century! It is just so nice, deep and smooth. He is great with accents and female voices too. I think I'll pretty much listen to anything he narrates. Rogue World is another good book in the series. That said, I have to admit, I am getting tired of McGill's "dogging" ways. He'll pretty much have sex with anything and it's starting to get tiring. Other than that, another awesome and funny book. Can't wait to listen to the next book!

The narrator was awesome. The plot was good. The ending was just ludicrous. There is a twist toward the end that really surprised me. I found most of the characters unlikeable. I absolutely HATED Jordan and Veronica. However, my biggest gripes are: 1) the book is entirely too long - over 200 chapters; 2) there was entirely too much unnecessary descriptiveness which added to the obscene length; 3) too much killing of seals; and, my main gripe 4) stereo-typing. Of course, the author had to make the 2 most beautiful characters in the book get together for the sole reason that they were beautiful. I did not sense any real attractiveness between them other than lust and using the other to get something from the other but they have sex a few times and suddenly, they are in love (seriously?). I got so sick and tired of hearing about the beautifully gorgeous Jordan. The beautifully gorgeous blonde, green-eyed, super-athlete, aspiring gold medal gymnast, graduated top of her class, blah, blah, blah, BLECH! Made me want to puke. I actually skipped ahead A LOT to avoid all the glowing accolades to the beautifully gorgeous Jordan. So annoying that I'm not sure I'll listen another book by this author.

I couldn't get past the first few chapters. The narrator was bad. He kept getting his Cajun and southern accents and his male and female voices mixed up. I had to go back and re-listen because I was confused. I didn't find any of the characters relatable. Who goes into someone's house and takes a pick-axe to the basement floor within an hour of arriving at the house? Also, another female character who is curvaceous blonde with big blue eyes. Blech. Stereotype much?
