Professor Theo Cray is trained to see patterns where others see chaos. So when mutilated bodies found deep in the Montana woods leave the cops searching blindly for clues, Theo sees something they missed. Something unnatural. Something only he can stop. As a computational biologist, Theo is more familiar with digital code and microbes than the dark arts of forensic sleuthing. But a field trip to Montana suddenly lands him in the middle of an investigation into the bloody killing of one of his former students.

I gave this book 5 stars because it kept my interest. He had to go back and teach, yet the professor kept going deeper, continuing his investigation further and in new directions, even when he himself questioned what he was doing. That created a tension within him that I understood. I thought the professor was totally believable. Admittedly there were loose ends in the story, but they did not ruin it. For those who love murder mysteries, I highly recommend this book.

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Fewer chase scenes and more serious interactions/better character development. I did not identify with any characters at all.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Change the tone/story to one that is more serious and believable. Help the reader to respect all the information.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

For me the plot was obscure. There was a great deal of activity, it was not especially interesting.

Do you think Inferno: A Novel needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It was written to be made into a fast-paced movie. No, I would not look forward to more of this.

Any additional comments?

Interesting historical information but too muddled in all the running and chasing around

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Maybe. Yes for someone who likes this pace of book. It is well written. No for someone who wants a faster paced story. I did not identify closely with any characters, except perhaps a little bit with Kate.

If you’ve listened to books by J. K. Rowling before, how does this one compare?

I liked the other book which is her first mystery in a series.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was good. Multiple narrators might have helped, not sure.

Was The Casual Vacancy worth the listening time?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I really like this writer and the pace of her books. It seemed to take some time to get all the characters straight and figure out who belongs to what family. So it was really slow in the beginning. Once I had the characters figured out, the story was very good. The characters are all believable.
