Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

A detailed nonfiction piece, there’s a great insight here.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The story is fascinating.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Words. Anecdotes became antidotes. Appellation became apealaation.

Within the first chapter, there’s a half dozen words that are just pronounced wrong. It detracts from the validity of the piece.

Did The Waco Siege: An American Tragedy inspire you to do anything?

Research.

Any additional comments?

Interesting. They should have done a pre read and made sure reader had all the words down.

What did you like best about The Tide? What did you like least?

I actually turned it off twice. After the first time, I thought, I’m just being picky. I shut it off about 30 minutes later.

The main character “Dom,” risks his team to save his family. This major character flaw is brushed away with a simple statement that his team member basically have no attachments and exist in a void to serve Dom’s whim.

This is the same zombie story we’ve seen a hundred times. I don’t want to be hyper negative, but I was really disappointed.

Basically anything that says, “elite team,” is a pass.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I’m desperate to go back to professional authors. The rise of self publishing has removed the gatekeeper of quality. This makes it surprising difficult to find a good book. Though pulpy and dated, I’ll probably listen to Warlord of Mars next.

What three words best describe Ryan Kennard Burke’s voice?

Even, soft, dispassionate

Could you see The Tide being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Ugh. Please no. Unless the stars are Story Editor and New Ideas, I think we can all agree we’ve seen this movie before. No need to repeat with a greater chance of failure.

Any additional comments?

I sort of want my credit back. I listen to three plus books a month and this one was just so flat.

The dialogue in the story is awkward. It’s stilted and unnatural. The characters feel as if they are interpretations of things read in nonfiction books about Jack the Ripper.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It was good, but Lorgars origin didn’t impress.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Lorgars home world sucks. It’s sort of a dune rip, sand critters and all. Wild religions. I just wanted Lorgar to be from a more complex society.

Which scene was your favorite?

——

Did Lorgar: Bearer of the Word inspire you to do anything?

ThwHoris Heresy Books are abusing fans. From the Istvan massacre to book 46... 46? Who the hell writes a 6 book series? I’m a wh40k fan, but this book inspired me to edit for fans, not for profit.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This is a terrible story. It’s just poorly written, random and the concept is weak. Typical Star Wars tropes are unappreciated. The narrator is good, we’ve heard him reading other SW stories. But this one... crap I wish I could get my money back. Darth Maul shadow hunter trumps this story by a factor of 100. Again, want my money back. Characters are flat, 2d stereo types, etc.Just...ugh.

What was most disappointing about Joe Schreiber’s story?

The plot.

What three words best describe Jonathan Davis’s voice?

Good. Tight, under stands Star Wars vocab. He’s good.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Star Wars: Maul?

Oh my... it’s just not a goood story. It needs a better goal for Maul... if he’s the sixth lords apprentice, he doesn’t need to be there. They could ha e sent clones or storm troopers to do this whole this. This is just a filler story.

Any additional comments?

Read many SW books. Huge fan. Narrator has read many of them. He’s great. This story... crap it’s just...weak. Boring. I want my money back. I feel bad, an an amateur writer dumping on another writer, but this isn’t entertaining.

Would you try another book from Harold Schechter and/or Charles Constant?

Probably not. There was little new in this catalog of human monsters, aside from pages of sensationalized gore.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The causes of the crimes were much more interesting than the detailed execution of them.

Which character – as performed by Charles Constant – was your favorite?

There weren't characters per se, just the narrator.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Nope. Netflix maybe.

Any additional comments?

The gruesome details of the murder of children seemed unnecessary. The book was presented as , IMHO, a compilation of crimes and criminals supported by historical facts and police files, etc. The detailed castration of small boys, elaborate fits of cannibalism seemed wildly unnecessary.

Would you try another book from Richard Lee Byers and/or Rosalyn Landor?

I'd give the author another chance. But honestly, I lost interest early on. The duo of dastardly drow gets old fast.

Would you ever listen to anything by Richard Lee Byers again?

Already answered this question above. I'd give it a try if it wasn't a Forgotten Realms story.

What aspect of Rosalyn Landor’s performance would you have changed?

Performance was fine. The events of the book were just... predictable or even passé.

Was Dissolution worth the listening time?

Overall, no. There are better drow stories and honestly, once you've seen one..

Any additional comments?

There was a lot of potential and a few good characters. But I tried twice and it just didn't hold my interest.

Would you listen to When Gravity Fails again? Why?

I was hesitant to listen based on some of the other reviews. Most of the negative reviews couldn't be more wrong, this is great science fiction that presents the gritty Cyberpunk noir world.

What did you like best about this story?

The plot unfolds quickly, and while perhaps not completely unpredictable, take place in a middle eastern ghetto. The cultural variations are a wonder nuance to the Cyberpunk world.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never heard of this author before, but I'm going to listen to more of his books.

Any additional comments?

Do your self a favor - ignore the negative comments. Enjoy this book.
