As I'm just a few chapters in, I'm marveling at Stephen King's prose, his word choice, and his general ability to bring scenes alive to the smallest detail. This was truly a pleasure to read/listen to, and as a long-time Constant Reader, this was one of my faves. It almost felt like there were Dean Koontz influences as well -- with wonderfully rich evil groups in the background. Highly recommended!

The story might be good, but this is abridged. Reading along with the actual book, this is missing significant sections in most paragraphs.

As a guy, I discovered that this book is all about a female coming-of-age in the 40s. It's about a behind-the-scenes look at Burlesque and musical theater of the time -- and the "high life" that went along with it. Feminine power of choice, in both work-related and sexual parts of life. If someone had told me all of that, I would have passed and said thanks, but not my cup of tea. However, I'm sure glad I read it! It was rich with vivid writing, deep character development, and a quality of action that always kept me interested. Highly recommended!

Not since "Gone Girl" have I so enjoyed a psychological thriller... and I've read dozens and dozens searching. This then -- this book -- is the one that I will raise up to friends as my #1 suggestion. Highly recommended!

This had so many good reviews and seemed right up my alley, so I dove in and gave it a shot. Now, having completed it, I was wondering if perhaps I had dozed off during part of it. I seemed to have missed something important. Sure, I got the story, and I understood what happened, but there seemed to be a lot of assumed knowledge.

After reading a few other reviews, I discovered that ten years ago, Richard Philips started the Rho series with “Second Ship,” which I’m reading now. Already, things make so much more sense in the Kasari Nexus world, and I think I’ll read the other two books that also come before Kasari Nexus before I re-read it.

I wish I could give it more stars because I feel that if it were touted as “book 4 of X” then I wouldn’t have started here, but alas, I’m glad that at least I was pointed in the right direction because the content is imaginative and suspenseful. I believe this series will be well worth the read when done in the right order.

Baldacci created a beautifully rendered mid-20th century world, complete with the suction and language of the time. It was a literary work of art, enjoyable just to be on the scene with the dialogue of the time. Really enjoyed this one!

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." This JFK quote, read by the protagonist, embodies his tenacity as he seeks to save family and country again and again. Suspenseful and scary in its possibly-real plots. Recommended!

I grabbed this book based on the recommendation of the top new audiobooks to check out, and I was not disappointed. I've gotten into fantasy books before, Romeo and Juliet vibe to it. recommended!
