Damn, she's sexy. Reagan Preston intrigues me from the moment I lay eyes on her. And speaking of laying...I want between those thighs. But I want to make her burn for me first. Every debate and stolen moment is foreplay for us. She claims she hates me, but her body tells a different story. I plan to win this election, but I also want to win the sharp, fiery Democrat who captures my attention like no woman ever has. Politics is filthy, just like all the things I want to do to Reagan Preston.

This could have been a good story but it isn’t, it missed that target by a wide margin, it is so far from good that has fallen off the other side of the spectrum. What a huge disappointment.

Jude, the war hero, falls for his female opponent in a senate race. Reagan, his opponent, falls for him as well. The difference is that she loses 40 IQ points, becomes a pathetic shell who is weak and ineffective. Jude dismisses her work as unimportant, going so far as to suggest that she resign so she can become his piece on the side while he does the important work in Washington.

Jude, the decorated war hero, is haunted by his war experience and is fawned over by every female in the state, is an arrogant a*s, completely unlikeable. Reagan, the weak pathetic woman, lacks confidence and purpose other than ‘serving her man’.

I usually enjoy Sierra Cartwright’s writing so I took a chance on this book despite the reviews. It was a mistake. The narration is flat, it lacks emotion and there is little differentiation between the voices. There are also occasional, and jarring, mispronunciations.

I’d suggest reading the book rather than listening.

So..... I started off liking this story but by about halfway through was listening at double speed, by the end I was skipping entire sections. Maggie starts off as a competent, independent career woman who likes some kink on the side. By the end she is dependent, mewling submissive who depends her Dom to function. The Dom turns out to be an omniscient, uncompromising sadist who acknowledges that he's made mistakes in the past but isn't willing to change his behaviour to correct those mistakes. His sub, Maggie, has to do all the compromising and as long as she is rewarded with orgasms after enduring his torture all is good. When Maggie, in a last show of independence, challenges his ways, he responds dismissively saying that in effect he is 'always right' and that if she really has a problem with something it is on her to do something about it. This, despite the fact that he never showed any willingness to consider any of her concerns.

I was quite disappointed really, I've enjoyed most of Sierra's books in the past but in this one the martinet wins everything and the heroine wins nothing...except bruises and orgasms.

I was born into British aristocracy, but I've made my fortune in Manhattan. New York is now my kingdom. Back in Britain, my family is fighting over who's the next Duke of Fairfax. The rules say it's me - if I'm married. It's not a trade-off worth making. I could never limit myself to just one woman. Or so I thought until my world is turned upside down. Now, the only way I can save the empire I built is to inherit the title I've never wanted - so I need a wife. To take my mind off business I need a night that's all pleasure.

Book 1 was a joy, Book 2 was a chore, sadly Book 3 continued the downward spiral. I had hoped for a rebound but it was not to be.

Drugged, kidnapped, held captive, choked when she didn't fall in line with what the men she loved wanted I still couldn't muster any empathy for Danny. Her captors (tormentors?) love her because of her spirit but she falls meekly at their feet when they punish her for not trusting them after years of them lying, spying, deceiving, breaking promises and not trusting her. It was when, after all the abuse they had heaped on her, she concluded that she 'deserved' punishment for not trusting them, that I gave up. Sorry Audible, I'm returning this one.

I agree with the reviewers who commented that part 2 wasn’t very good. Nothing is resolved, this is 8 hours of introspection and internal, mostly uninteresting, dialogue. The tension was artificial and I stopped caring what happened to the 3 people in this love triangle.

I’m not sure if I’ll bother with part 3.

Sexist, paternalistic, conventional conservative thinking. Peterson should get out more and discover the worlds beyond Judeo-Christian boundaries. While listening I couldn’t help but think of William F Buckley and his arrogant adherence to sesquipedalian (look it up) writing, it’s not a positive comparison.

Thank you Audible for allowing me to return this truly dreadful work.

Entertaining, although it dragged a bit in spots. Both Julia and Clay were at times unbelievable in their over-the-top reactions to situations that rational people would simply have talked through, but hey, it’s a romance. As well Julia’s insistence on not asking for help to deal with the financial situation she was in was difficult to swallow.

Is anyone else tired of the literary technique of a back-and-forth email/text conversation that includes all of the to/from/subject/date before each text? It was tedious the first time I saw it and has appeared in several books since. It is especially irritating in audiobooks where the narrator spends more time reading the header information than reading the body of the message! I skipped a couple chapters during theses segments, I couldn’t be bothered putting up with the tedium.

Five Aston has known Rory Shrike for as long as he can remember. He played with her in the sandbox. He went to every damn horse show just to be supportive. He helped her with her French, walked her home from school, and faked his test scores just to stay with her a little longer and not be sent off to college early. But eventually he had to move on. And so did she. Never has a second chance meant so much to a boy who loves a girl.

Uhmmm, I loved the other books so purchasing this book was automatic.

The performances were good, unfortunately....

The storyline was improbable (ridiculous?), interspersed with a bouts of sex and occasional moments of good writing. This was...painful...I kept checking the remaining time left in the narration and eventually gave up an skipped to the last chapter.

I highly recommend the other stories in this series, you miss NOTHING by not reading/listening to this story.
