While I enjoyed the storyline the romantic interest is written somewhat sophmoric... tone it down....no one buys into a lusting couple during a economic meltdown. The author is unrealistic in aspects pertinent to the plot but if you can get past that it has potential. I listened to it as a audiobook and BEG that the audio recording be edited. Does no one listen to the final mix??? Start stop repetition runs all through the recording.

Lauren Russell, her family, and the community of Trout Run Valley had been blessed with a workable blueprint for overcoming nearly insurmountable odds - odds that had been surmounted against them, and others like them, since the blackout, subsequent decline of society, and the world's devolution. The aftermath of the most recent onslaught, a ruthless attack by a menacing enemy, had left them reeling in its wake, leaving a once-sustainable food supply damaged beyond repair and two of their own senselessly murdered.

Excellently written trilogy. Officially one of my favorite authors now. Doesn't fall in love with a word and use it repeatedly. Uses references to historical events without droning on and on. Manages to effectively juggle multiple storylines . Battle scenes are well excuted without having to elaborate. I also love the narrator....he really brings the book.to life.
