I'm not sure what happened. I just finished first book Cocky and was excited to move right on to the next one. But, I've gotten to Chapter 10 and can't go on any further. It's too SLOW. The storyline, the narrator...all are too freaking slow.

Taylor Langford’s world is torn apart when he is only 13 years old - his parents killed, leaving him alone and orphaned. With no living relatives, he’d certainly be another statistic if not for the intervention of the policeman who found Taylor in the crawl space where his mother hid him that fateful night. Frank Moore is a rookie with the Dallas Police Department when he and his partner answer the call in Devonshire. Over the years, Frank becomes a permanent fixture in Taylor’s life.

it begins excellently. Mysterious murders, lone survivor....killer at large. Yes!
No. It stalls afterwards. The lone survivor was a kid who ends up in a relationship with one of the adults who saved him. Granted, when the relationship began, the survivor was an adult himself. it just felt wrong. Then, the author remembered the survivor and murder have unfinished business hence the ending be ridiculously rushed. be

Noah Silver is having a difficult time. With his mom passing and his dad growing more and more difficult to live with, he's pushed into an unorthodox way of making money. He knew that being a cam boy would be temporary, but he didn't realize how drastically it would change his life. He had no idea he would meet the man of his dreams because of it. He also had no idea he would become the target of a serial killer because of it.

This presented to be an exciting read. However, the serial killer angle was an afterthought plot. Oxymoron...definitely. The narrator was not a great this book. I had to speed up the narration. Oddly, it didn't do much. It kept putting me to sleep when I was actively doing something else while listening. So, it was perfect at bedtime.

The storyline was interesting enough. But it was hard to remember that these were high school kids, at times. The narrator was painful. I had to speed up the narration just to tolerate the book being read. Long story short, this was not a good experience.

I wished the author used the narrators from book 1. These narrators are awkward in their reading and voices are just awful.

Dean Mathews leads a normal, if boring life. His career, his home, his social life, none of it is really what he wanted for himself, but it's the life he has nonetheless. A small coincidence brings him the opportunity to take ownership of his grandfather's old farm, to bring the place under his wing and careful hand. This choice will lead him from his old life to face a host of new challenges, most of which he expected. The unforeseen comes in the form of Mikael Reed, a simple carpenter - with a few secrets.

The story itself was okay. it was okay enough to keep me company during my flight home. However, the narrator's voice is an insomniac's dream when he's not mispronouncing words - i.e. Michael & Mykal. It was as if the man and his possibly his wolf had different names. That would be feasible but...no. The narrator was simply inconsistent. Awful.

I LOVE book series. They keep the great tales going. You are afforded to really get invested in the characters. I don't know if I'll move on to the next book.

Mary Calmes books are like baklava. You dive into them knowing that they're going to be syrupy sweet and nutty. In that regard, this didn't disappoint. However, a CIA agent who doesn't do follow-up to see if the person he loves is okay, just doesn't fly. I won't say more because I don't want to be spoiler. But, this was a short "read" that was almost a DNF.

Honestly, the book was enjoyable until the author developed female characters whose place in society was only to bare children, raise children, attend to the needs of the males and the home. Really? Also, the narrator would mix up the voices of his characters and the recording skipped occasionally.
