Great book but the narrator needs to slow down his pace a little bit and maybe actually pause between switching to new characters

The Earth is under siege - and no one knows about it because the invaders erase those whom they consume. A handful of men and women stand on the border between the mundane and the magical. They have a special spark of soul - not quite enough to be naturally gifted in spellcraft but greater than the average person, a tiny flame that can ignite incredible potential. Luke Daniels is one of my favorite story tellers he always does the book justice. On top of that this book in particular shines because of vivid story and interesting interactions that Daniels voices very well.

It's not easy being king. Especially when you've got an allergy to sunrise and sunset, a fire goddess for a mother-in-law, demonic adversaries, random assassins, and a basement full of insecurities to cope with. Add to that his daughter, the fire priestess/princess; a couple of lightly deranged professional magicians; a whole city full of wizards; and enough squabbling princes to resemble a kindergarten argument. It's enough to make a man want to just go home.

Very good book I recommend it if you enjoy stories that skip much. The only thing I disliked was the fact that it never explained how he is able to use magic at night again.

Ven Khalida is a land of magic and gods. Settlements abound, both large and small, each with a life of their own and hidden secrets. Except Rottwealth. A backwater village, surrounded by mountains and ignored by most, nothing of merit ever leaves the valley. Aside, of course, from the mystical plant which shares its name. A plant that can heal even the most dire wounds in a matter of moments, and flourishes within the swamp that takes up part of the valley.

The character never gets past his jealousy and it kinda ruined the book for me. The main character couldn't stop whining and wallowing in self pity which destroyed what over wise seemed like a good book. As long as you can get past what I couldn't the book is very interesting.

Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.

The book is excellent and I very much enjoyed it. I cation those who will read/listen to it to be prepared for a unusual writing style. It seems like the author would write a part of the story go to bed and in the morning go "oh I have another idea for a different book but I love it so let's just add it in here." Don't get me wrong he does glue it all together well but it's difficult to stay with the book unless you really get into it. Overall very good book and somehow needs a lot more to even been close to the middle of the overall story. You'll understand once you get into it, the author is setting the character up for a lot of different scenarios. Pay attention to the book and you will enjoy it!

The story seems rushed. The author just kinda does a fly by of events in the story that could have been delved into. I do like the background put into story though, the author spent time to develop a rich history/mythology, unfortunately that's all he spent time on the rest he seems to forget. So while the story lacked in many areas it wasn't unreadable.
