I loved the book as a stand alone and it is spellbinding.

But having cheered on Hawk to save a life in another story I was shocked to see her cruel death in this very next book....WHY?

On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan's neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel's best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel's blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.

Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct. After nine years with the board, she knows that most problems are caused by incompetence, not corruption. But a corruption case eventually crosses her desk. A previously disbarred lawyer is back in business with a new identity. He now goes by the name Greg Myers, and he claims to know of a Florida judge who has stolen more money than all other crooked judges combined.

I have resided in the Florida panhandle my entire life. It added a fun dimension to the Grisham story which ranks among his best. I am expecting a movie out of this one! Thanks for fascinating story.

After springing Corrie from jail, Pendergast learns she made a discovery while examining the bones of several miners who were killed 150 years earlier by a rogue grizzly bear.

I enjoy all of the Pendergast series and find the plot lines fascinating and unique. I will not spoil the ending just say I was going to write the authors until I listened to the small remaining part of the book. I also really enjoy the narrator who fully embodies my imagination of Pendergast. Bravo!
