Texas in the early 1900s, its inhabitants still traveling by horseback and barely familiar with the telephone, was on the cusp of an oil boom that, unbeknownst to its residents, would spark a period of dramatic changes and economic growth. In the midst of this transformative time in Southern history, two unforgettable characters emerge and find their fates irrevocably intertwined.

Would you listen to Titans again? Why?

No. I don't care to listening, reading, or watching a second time.
Once is enough.

What about Casey Holloway and Brian Hatch ’s performance did you like?

They were very good. I enjoyed the fact that there were two different people reading. It helped keep me on task of what was happening.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. When Trevor found out Nathan and Samantha were his children. The excitement he showed when he was ready to introduce them to his mother; also when Nathan told his grandmother that her other son committed suicide and Trevor was keeping the secret for her benefit.

Devoted fans of Leila Meacham will devour this long, juicy audiobook. Tumbleweeds is the story of three young friends - the saint, the sinner, and the angel - growing up together in the sort of small Texas Panhandle town that lives and dies by its Friday night football games. A fateful event casts a long shadow over these three intertwined lives and leaves the listener desperate to see how it all plays out.

I was in suspense throughout the entire book wondering what was going to happen! I didn't expect the ending. The narrator "Angele Masters" was amazing to listen too!

One hundred fifty years of Roses' Tolivers, Warwicks, and DuMonts! We begin in the antebellum South on Plantation Alley in South Carolina, where Silas Toliver, deprived of his inheritance, joins up with his best friend Jeremy Warwick to plan a wagon train expedition to the "black waxy" promise of a new territory called Texas. Slavery, westward expansion, abolition, the Civil War, love, marriage, friendship, tragedy and triumph-all the ingredients (and much more) that made so many love Roses so much-are here in abundance.

Where does Somerset rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

High

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jessica. She was sassy, tough, and took control. She put Darla in her place. She loved Silas unconditionally.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her accent sounded fake therefore making it difficult to listen. I was forced to speed the reading up to tolerate the accent. She did not do a good job changing character voices.

If you could rename Somerset, what would you call it?

I wouldn't think of renaming Somerset!

Any additional comments?

I will be extremely mindful not to listen to any additional audio books read by this narrator.

Spanning the 20th century, the story of Roses takes place in a small East Texas town against the backdrop of the powerful timber and cotton industries, industries controlled by the scions of the town's founding families. Cotton tycoon Mary Toliver and timber magnate Percy Warwick should have married but unwisely did not, and now must deal with the deceit, secrets, and tragedies of their choice.

Where does Roses rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high. I really enjoyed this storyline.

What does Coleen Marlo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She puts so much expression into her characters making the listener feel as if they are actually in the moment.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I travel a lot and I love listening to books on audio while driving. I do not like sitting still to read or even listen; I like listening while on the move. I can start and stop at my convenience, and I can do a short rewind or go back to the beginning of a chapter.
