Ann Fessler has produced a heartfelt and beautiful body of work that clearly defines what many of us observed from a distance or experienced in secrecy during the 1950's and 1960's in America. Ann covers all perspectives to include young women who were coerced or forced to surrender their babies, parents of the girls, the unwed mother facilities, the agencies that managed the adoptions, the adoptive parents, and the estranged young fathers. This history is essential reading for all who value, and also for all who question, the reproductive freedom that teeters on a wobbly base in American politics. This book provides the voices, tears, and despair that policy does not convey. I loved listening to this book and honor all who contributed.

Another delightful journey into Lorna Landvik's multi-layer, genius writing! I'm always sad when the stories end...I love her quirky characters who somehow teach us the true meaning of love and life. Once In a Blue Moon Lodge had me hooting, weeping, reflecting, giggling, and full of joy bumps...or goose bumps as we called them growing up in Minnesota. The audiobook reader was quite good, but Lorna's own rich voice, humor, and interpretation of her characters is my preference. Thank you Lorna! Can't wait for the next one!

Would you listen to The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend again? Why?

Yes, I will definitely revisit this story. I love the context of what can evolve from a pen pal relationship into a visitor becoming essential to an entire town. We only hope that our quiet lives can become that full of love and caring for others...warts and all.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Amy, the letter writer. Her wisdom gave me pause...every time.

Which character – as performed by Fiona Hardingham and Lorelei King – was your favorite?

Sara and Amy. Both readers were perfect...they conveyed the characters better than I could have imagined them in my own mind. Fiona Hardingham's Swedish accent was excellent, as well as her characterization of the colorful Iowans. Lorelei King's beautiful voice drips with the power and intelligence of an extraordinary, yet ordinary woman such as Amy.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait for another book by Katarina Bivald. A sequel continuing the story of Broken Wheel would be delightful, especially if read by the same readers! An old diary of Amy's could surface, full of town secrets and wisdom. I don't want my friendship with the people of Broken Wheel to end.

Another winner! Both story and performance are outstanding...lots of out loud laughing and downright sobbing. Our animals hold a direct line to our hearts. These life experience tales, told from the intelligent heart and voice of a dog, sharpen our human perception of a "dog's purpose".

Another work of art by Barbara Kingsolver!

Unexpected depth of characters, amazing science woven in, typical Kingsolver magic! The author's reading of her own work is impeccable. She voices the soul of her characters.

This book is so full of incredible observations and insight about life from a "boomer" woman's perspective! I laughed out loud...I shed tears...I saw some new light. Anna writes so many quotable passages...I had to get the Kindle version as well to re-enjoy the highlights!

So much more than a memoir of fame!

What made the experience of listening to Along the Way: The Journey of a Father and Son the most enjoyable?

I love the movie "The Way" that Emilio and Martin made together...this book is a wonderful inside view of that journey...but so much more! It is a sharing of a truly unique and loving family that has not only survived Hollywood...but gained great wisdom that has enabled them to thrive in so many ways. Very inspiring!

What other book might you compare Along the Way: The Journey of a Father and Son to and why?

The Camino by Shirley MacLaine. She also courageously bares her soul and shares her transformative life experiences and wisdom.

Have you listened to any of Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I will in the future.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The commitment that Martin Sheen and his life-long marriage partner Janet Templeton have sustained in the raising of their four children and in the inclusion of their children's ex-spouses to create a strong sense of family for all their grandchildren. The sign on the entrance to their home reads something like..."All are welcome...leave your conflicts at the door." Bravo!

What did you like best about this story?

The fascinating characters and the revealing...manifesting...of the town's story.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Top notch...all three! Especially Jenna Lamia..her voice is incredibly diverse and pleasing. I fell in love with Abilene and her two sidekicks because of Jenna's voice portrayal. Magical!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!
