I love Flavia de Luce, and she has begun to mature in this novel, a very smart move by the author. I am curious to see how the adventures proceed.

Of programs whose narrators drag a story out too long in hopes of creating a suspenseful climate to an otherwise meh story.

Who knows? I could not listen.

The reader does not have the voice to bring this story to life. I will try the tangible book to see if I can stir interest in this story and the characters. It is sad to have this happen.

This tale, although entirely predictable, was a sweet little story by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. Richard Armitage did a delightful narration which kept me listening. In this crazy time in history, I find comfort in these sentiments.

I thought the sentimentality overwhelming and the story transparent. Sorry I wasted a credit in this book.

A great story teller, a heart wrenching, touching story, and a most entertaining history lesson on the abolition and suffrage movements. This book is A beautiful example of riveting historical fiction.

I judge a story by how it made me curious to learn more about the subject. The story made me very curious about all of the Brontë sisters and their books.

What other book might you compare Dragonfly in Amber to and why?

The first book.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

Claire is the main character, though in this story she is particularly annoying as she attempts to be a modern, independent woman in a mid evil time. She continues to get both she and Jaime into trouble though pigheadedness that is almost too much.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Claire must sleep with the King to get Jaime out of prison. She tries to hide it, but ends up confessing.

What did you love best about Outlander?

I first read the paper version of the Outlander series a few years ago. Knowing that I was scheduled to make a lot of flights and travel, I decided to try the audible version. I already knew and loved the stories, which would lessen the "gamble" of purchasing something unfamiliar. The audio version met my requirements; that 9 hour transatlantic travel was made bearable with my old friends, Claire and Jamie.

What other book might you compare Outlander to and why?

Outlander is a fantastical story with a large dose of historical fiction and lots of bodice ripping. It is hard to compare to other historical fictions, as I typically read the drier versions.

Which scene was your favorite?

I can not identify one particular scene.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The paper copy of this book is around 1000 pages. I knew I could never listen to it in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

My only very slight criticism of the book is that I expected Claire to have a younger voice. Not a young voice, mind. Just younger. Nonetheless, as what frequently happens in this kind of thing, one adjusts.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The performers well and truly fit their roles. This book is a compilation of letters that reveal life during the German occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII. It is historical, interesting, poignant and reflective of influences and motivations that affected Britian at that time. Although not a true romance, thank goodness, there is a romantic hue.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character is the one who is missing. When you hear it, you will understand.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrators allow you to visualize people, see colors and smell the land.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were times my eyes were moist, and my breath was deep.
