Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

I have always wanted to become a James Bond groupie. My mom and brother loved the films growing up but I could never get into them. I remember finding out the films had been famous books in the fifties and sixties when I was in high school in the eighties. I believe Pierce Brosnan was the reigning Bond then. I made mental note to read up on Ian Fleming. I've finally made good on that mental note after all these years. I couldn't be more intrigued by the hype. James Bond is definitely one of the best heroes ever written. The structure of this opening novel the gripping series is a quintessential masterpiece. And this audio book is a majestic complement to the author and his characters. I now make a mental note to complete the entire series. Way to go, Dan Stevens. Thank you, Ian Fleming.

Set in the 1950’s Paris of American expatriates, liaisons, and violence, a young man finds himself caught between desire and conventional morality. With a sharp, probing imagination, James Baldwin’s now-classic narrative delves into the mystery of loving and creates a moving, highly controversial story of death and passion that reveals the unspoken complexities of the human heart.

Thanks to Dan Butler I now have a truly vivid and unforgettable picture of these characters that will live in my thoughts for years to come. I love this book. I love it more now that I've had the opportunity to experience it this way.

Subtle. Discretely written like the town it's set in. The story and these characters will linger in my thoughts for a good while. Love the comic overtones in the writing. They made me think of how I cope with the loss of those I have loved and let go of - for whatever reason. The ending is filled with hope, fear, desperation and light. Looking forward to my next Perrotta book.
