I loved this book like I loved, when I was a little girl, Black Beauty. This is such a well told story and there are so many life lessons in it . There are despicable people and there are unbelievably wonderful people in the book and if you really are listening, there are things that you'll keep with you after the story and remember, that will help as you go along in your own life. All of Catherine Ryan Hyde's books are so worthwhile and while she's teaching us things, she's consistently telling wonderful stories that are great to listen to it again and again.

Right in line with all of Betty MacDonald's books that are memoirs of her life, this is a great one. Her books are a part of my life and I listen to them over and over and over, like visiting family and loving every minute of it.

The narrator was very personal and warm and made this book even more meaningful to me . The information in this marvelous book touched me right to the depths of my soul and spoke to my personality perfectly . I'm sure it will do that for many others too. Thank you so much, to Kathryn and Lydia for this marvelous information that I have been waiting to hear, absolutely ever since I was five years old. I have lived my entire life controlled by food and by bingeing and purging, with year after year of heartbreaks and wasted time. At last, at 62, it is so wonderful, beyond words, to be free from that control of constant, unreasonable, overwhelming appetite and crazy hunger . Thank you !

Such an intriguing and beautifully written mystery and thriller and love story. The romance was tastefully and naturally developed and refreshingly devoid of lurid descriptions of sexual acts. The suspense was throughout and didn't let go.This book is so well balanced and satisfying that When it ended I immediately went to the audible store to shop for another by this author, but there were not any! I'll be checking and hoping for more from her in the future.

The narrator told this story so it seemed like it was Maude herself telling it and I couldn't stop listening and was sorry when it was over -- she had such a hard life but met every turn with grace and determination . Maude sets an inspiring ,down-to-earth example of finding some joy in life, though living in a network of sorrow and hardship.

I loved the character development because it made me totally interested in whatever the story was going to be.....and the story was sensational !
I would call it a realistic thriller because what happened was a nightmare, but really could happen in anybody's life , unfortunately. excellent narrator !
