My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic. And a coyote shape-shifter. And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack. Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who live in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground.

I had some difficulties with this book. I kept reading thinking that there would be some good come of it, maybe reform or accomplishing something good but - no. I have a problem with someone breaking the law and steeling things, even if the owner is dishonest or a very bad person. I could probably enjoy it if it benefited those who were hurt by the owner or even those who are poor or needy. This however is just for personal gain and challenge of breaking and entering somewhere or swindling someone. They are clever, but still wrong in my mind. It took most of the enjoyment out of it for me.

Lyra's story begins in the Haven Institute, a building tucked away on a private island off the coast of Florida that from a distance looks serene and even beautiful. But up close, the locked doors, military guards, and biohazard suits tell a different story. In truth Haven is a clandestine research facility where thousands of replicas, or human models, are born, raised, and observed. When a surprise attack is launched on Haven, two of its young experimental subjects - Lyra, or 24, and the boy known only as 72 - manage to escape.

I liked the 2 separate story format. I did jump between them a couple of times to get the effect I wanted. There was good character development and shaping and enough action without being over the top. It has some language but no sex. I thought it was age appropriate for older teens.
I would have liked it to continue further in the end but it ended in a good place where you can decide nicely what happens from there.
Definitely recommend to those who fine cloning interesting.
(One character has same sex parents. They are not part of the story other than being referred to)

But now and then, he couldn’t help but wonder if his lifetime of bad romances - starting with the pretty tourist who broke his twelve-year-old heart - could be traced back to a childhood prank involving that very statue...Then one day the pretty tourist comes barreling back into Bayberry - all grown-up and on the run with her niece. Though Evelyn McGuinness is wanted for kidnapping, she tries to persuade Clancy that there’s more to the story.
