London, 1888. As colorful and unfettered as the butterflies she collects, Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell can't resist the allure of an exotic mystery - particularly one involving her enigmatic colleague, Stoker. His former expedition partner has vanished from an archaeological dig with a priceless diadem unearthed from the newly discovered tomb of an Egyptian princess. This disappearance is just the latest in a string of unfortunate events that have plagued the controversial expedition, and rumors abound that the curse of the vengeful princess has been unleashed as the shadowy figure of Anubis himself stalks the streets of London.

I thoroughly enjoyed dDetective Lavender and his Sergeant Woods. The scenes created by the author were well done without drowning me in minute detail.

The characters believable and in keeping with the thought of the time. I particularly enjoyed how the women were shown to be intellegent and capable to ensure their own care and support in ways that circumvented traditional while still maintaining society's grey lines of acceptability. showing women of intelligence during a time when women became their husbands property.

Good plot and it kept me interested throughout.

Another winner in the Speedwell Stoker duo. Written well and with such strong characters and plot its one I hated to see end. Looking for the next in the series!!

With forthrite speech and while no outright sex...it does reference sexual activities in a honest way that only lends to the story, but does not make it smutty. I find myself laughing out loud at how some of it is presented.

I so admire the strong female in Miss Veronica Speedwell. A woman who knows her mind and where she stands. but with a keen scientific mind she is not so ridged to deny facts that differ from her stand. The glimpses into her mire vunerable side are not soppy and lend well to endearing her tobthe reader.

Stokers character a rouge that makes no apologies for who he is but also a gentleman. As the layers of his character continue to unfold I find myself wishing to get the next peek into his dark persona.

Excellent read!!!
