A magical serial killer is on the loose, and gelatinous, otherworldly creatures are infesting the English countryside. Which is making life for the Ministry of Occultism difficult, because magic is supposed to be their best kept secret. After centuries in the shadows, the Ministry is forced to unmask, exposing the country's magical history - and magical citizens - to a brave new world of social media, government scrutiny, and public relations.

Do NOT listen to this audiobook while driving or at least don't listen to it while driving at high speeds, because at various points of the story are moments that are so funny that you will nearly pass out from laughter. I've had a few close calls myself and I was lucky enough to narrowly avoid losing consciousness and hitting anything or wandering off the road, but others might not be so fortunate.

P.S. in the event you do not need my warning and you do end up getting in a car accident as a result, I would kindly ask that you do not sue Mr. Croshaw. He does good work.

Around midnight, under a lonely streetlamp in a provincial town in Japan, lies a white woman, a blonde, alone, robbed of all four limbs yet undead. Indeed, a rumor's been circulating among the local girls that a vampire has come to their backwater, of all places. Koyomi Araragi, who prefers to avoid having friends because they'd lower his "intensity as a human", is naturally skeptical.

The voice cast made it feel like I was listening to the dub of an anime, complete with apropos music. The only thing that got on my nerves is how the main character insisted on repeating the vampiress' full name complete with monikers nearly every single time she was mentioned, but that was probably intentional on the author's part. Gotta love it!

the narrator makes many of the characters sound like valley girls even though they don't sound like that at all in the show.
